Doctor insights on: Sudden weight gain and bloated stomach
I have sudden weight gain only in abdomen area. Sometimes feeling bloated. What could be the reason?
I have a 4cm cyst. Can this cause my stomach to be bloated or weight gain? I can't lose weight around my stomach even with lots of excerise & dieting
No: A cyst, should not stop you from losing weight. I would recommend a plant based/whole food diet. This diet has been shown to have multiple health benefits. If bloating and weight gain continue I would see your doctor for evaluation and blood tests. There are medicines available to help with this. Depending on where your cyst is, it can be removed as well. ...Read more
I have wicked back pain, bloated stomach, badly constipated, hot flushes and weight gain. I am on constipated treatment and this makes no difference.
Constipation Rx: Well, you can't really tell what role the constipation is playing until you have some results. If increasing water, fiber in diet, & exercise isn't producing results of easier passage of softer stool, then you may need a laxative (i.e. Miralax) or enemas, hopefully supervised by your doctor. You are likely having hot flashes from menopause; your doctor can help with hormone and other treatments. ...Read more

Persistent bloated/swollen looking stomach with full heavy feeling, gurgling and gas. Weight gain around hips thighs and bum despite very healthy diet.
Re-evaluate: Your healthy diet may not be healthy for you. See healing digestive disorder by andrew gaeddert. Generally eating 6 small meals with 6 servings of raw vegetables and one fruit, 3 t of olive oil, high quality protein but not dairy, and low carb grains like quinoa, amaranth, or buckwheat groats (not wheat, rice, or corn), managing stress skillfully, and moving 60 minutes throughout the day helps. ...Read more
Had miscarriage 3weeks ago. Stomach is very bloated and hard. Weight gain/cyst ovary/pid. Intercourse is uncomfortable and causes tummy to swell. Cause?
See Ob/Gyn: I would worry about an infection in your bladder, uterus, ovaries or tubes; an incomplete miscarriage; and something rare called gestational trophoblastic disease. In my office, you would get an ultrasound, labwork and possibly a course of antibiotics. You should see your Ob/Gyn for evaluation of your symptoms to find out what is going on as this can sometimes be serious. Best wishes! ...Read more

Maybe not related?: First distinguish fluid weight (like edema, ascites, "third spacing") from tissue weight (e.g. Bodybuilding, reparative, tumors, adipose). There are lots of metabolic reasons to rule out (organ disease like heart, liver, kidneys), insufficiency (thyroid, adrenal, kidney), more. Often high calorie (but low volume) foods & drink may add up quickly (3000-3500 extra calories per pound gained). ...Read more
Need for evaluation:
