Lymph node: There are thousands of lymph node located around the body that help screen out germs in the body serum before it returns to the circulation. There are many in the neck, head, behind the ear. At rest these are often 1/4 inch in diameter and may grow to marble sized when reacting to a stimulus. Bug bites, or viral infections can increase their size. They should shrink down to nl size over a few wks.

Face swelling: It sounds like something is causing excess fluid in the tissues of the face and neck, which moves with gravity to the lowest side when you lay down and still. Causes may include allergic reactions, infections of the teeth or sinuses, kidney disease, blockages to the veins in the neck, etc. If this finding persists more than a day or two, get it checked out by a physician.

Over a year, only right side of head, base, side neck, visible swelling. Lasts 3 days. Turn head left feel like sharp pinch right side neck 4 a day?

Somewhat difficult: To imagine what might be causing episodic swelling of the neck. Possibilities might include salivary gland swelling or angioedema. Lymph node swelling or enlargement wouldn't be expected to be transitory. Imaging, ultrasound, CT or MRI, should certainly help here and, especially since this has been going on over a year, you should see your doctor SOON for evaluation. Good wishes:)

Been having achy pain in the front on my neck, by my thyroid, worse in the morning or when I wake up. Sometimes swelling. Mostly on the left side.

You may be right. ..: .. that the pain is near your thyroid. Or it may be something else in your neck. Thyroiditis, or inflammation of the thyroid, is the major cause of thyroid pain. Swelling can be another symptom. OR you may have some muscular pain. The only way to be sure is to see your doctor for an evaluation: history, palpation (physical exam) of your neck, possibly blood tests and ultrasound. Good wishes:)

Did you: Injure it? Are you left handed? Do you carry your purse on that shoulder? It sounds like some kind of spasm that is causing the swelling and pain. Have you tried ice or heat or Ibuprofen or aleve (naproxen)?

What does it mean if my lymph nodes are alternating in swelling in the neck? It would go to left side to under chin to right then back to chin/ left

See doctor: Could be bacterial infection, viral infection, possibly non-infection. The point is you need to see a doctor. It may not even be lymph nodes you are feeling. You may be feeling normal anatomy. Please see a doctor. Good luck
