Sudden Lump On Neck
Found sudden hard lump on neck yesterday. Near back of neck. Don't smoke, don't drink. It isn't painful. Is it pinched nerve? No infection. I worry.
Have it checked: Lumps in the neck can be caused by a number of things ranging from from benign (like lymph nodes responding to an infection, cysts, or non-cancerous tumors) to serious things like cancer. Any neck lumps in someone who smokes are especially worrisome and should be checked by a physician. It depends: A trigger point is the presence of tiny knots along a muscle fiber and when pressed may causes severe pain (jump sign). Neck pain & swelling: Greetings. The neck pain and swelling adjacent to the area of a tooth extraction points you back to the dentist. Your family doctor or an ENT would also be an option. From what I gather, you could have reactive lymphadenopathy that would respond to an antibiotic. Your dentist would be wise to re-examine the extraction site for any signs of persistent infection.
