Are the palates part of the skull? If too much force is exerted to the palate during the dental procedure, can the palate crack along the midline?

Palates: The palate is the floor of the skull in this section. I do not anticipate the palate cracking along the midline during a dental procedure; this area is very strong and more resistant to cracking. This area fuses during the time of puberty. ...Read more

I bashed my skull on the freezer door a few years ago. I have a dent in my skull. Would this cause any problems later on?

Go see your doctor: If your skull has a dent, you should get it checked by your doctor. But it takes a severe injury to create a dent in the skull and you will have a big bruise or hematoma on top of the skin. If you do not have any swelling on scalp, it is unlikely you have dented the skull. But if you want to be sure, you should get a check up by your doctor as there is risk of bleeding (hematoma on the brain. ...Read more

I had a dent appear in my skull abt 3/8"x5/8" on top rt side of my skull where I have migraines and have Sz D/O. What is wrong?

Mri: If you haven't had an MRI of your brain, I would have one done. Some very uncommon benign lesions in your brain, such as meningiomas can cause epilepsy, seizures and can cause skull erosion. If you had an MRI and it's clean, don't worry about it. ...Read more

I have a large dent on the back of my skull and about a month ago I started getting bad headaches were I couldn't get out of bed. Need answers?

Need an exam: I don't suspect that the dent is causing the headache but it would be advisable to have a physician exam that in person.
As for the headache, it it's fairly consistent and new then again, a consultation with a physician is recommended because there are a broad range of causes for headaches such as tension headache, sinus headaches, migraines, neuropathies, muscle spasms and spinal issues. ...Read more

I get pains, left side skull, lasts seconds, also a dent about 3 inches long that runs from my temple upwards where the pain occurs. What is this?

Muscle pain: Likely a muscle spasm from one of your chewing muscles. Are you chewing a lot of gum? Eating hard or chewy candy? Eating meat a lot? Rest the area by eating soft foods only like soups and pudding and this problem should resolve tale over the counter pain meds like tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin for pain. Cold and warm compresses to that area with help as well good luck. ...Read more

I'm 39 & I've noticed a change in the Shape of my skull. The flat area @ my crown is a deeper dent & I have a ridge behind both ears? Causes/concerns?

Should not change: Once the skull has finished growing which is no later than 25 years old there should be no change in the skull shape. Behind the ears, the skull does feel like ridges. A further indentation at the crown area would indicate possibly some new bone growth. There are some disorders in which this occurs but they are not usually selective to just the skull. Paget's is one. See your MD and be checked. ...Read more

Afraid skull's coming apart or growing tumors around temporalis. Dr says I'm just anxious/noticing asymmetrical bumps/cracks/dents. Always tender. Cracks are small, but feel deep. Bump's above ear.

Seek Diagnostic Eval: It sounds like you are being tormented by intrusive thoughts that are really scaring you. I'd recommend seeing a psychiatrist or clinical psychologist for some careful diagnostic detective work. These thoughts are certainly anxiety provoking but they may be best characterized as symptomatic of something other than an anxiety disorder, per se - like obsessive-compulsive disorder (ocd). ...Read more

Painless dent on scalp after minor trauma, getting sinus/skull xray, had nausea, sinusitis and postnasal drip. Could CSF leak cause the sinusitis?

Unlikely: Depends on what you mean by sinusitis. Minor trauma is not likely to result in a CSF leak. If you have one-sided nasal drainage which is clear and salty tasting I recommend you see your doctor. There is a lab test for CSF fluid from the nose (beta-2-transferrin test) which is very accurate. ...Read more

2 yo chasing bro today. Tripped & hit forehead on wood stair. Some bruising & small dent if you push it. Acting normal all day. Poss skull fracture?

Possible: If you think that you can identify an area of the skull that moves with pressure on it then a skull fracture is very possible, and a depressed skull fracture becomes a possibility and may need fixation. It is difficult to tell if there is swelling of the skin and soft tissue that can be depressed though. In general this can be cleared up pretty easily in you closest emergency room with an x-ray. ...Read more
