How high is the success rate for allergic desensitization?

90%

Asthma
I tell my patients 30% have dramatic improvement, 30% good results & 30% fair results. 10% don't improve. Better results occur when the patient is younger and doesn't have asthma and when fewer allergies are present. Success depends also on the commitment of the patient and the family and the expertise of the allergy office and staff.

Dr. Andrea Kossler answered:

Discovered Xlear, which is amazing. Looking for similar success w/ eyedrops to treat sensitive, irritated, red, tired, allergic eyes. Recommendation?

Many options

Head-eye
There are many good eye drops available. It depends which symptoms you aim to treat. Artificial tears (Refresh, Systane, Genteal, Optive) help to lubricate and refresh dry, red, irritated eyes. Patanol or pataday eye drops can treat red, itchy allergic eyes. Acular or ketorolac eye drops can help treat red, irritated, painful eyes. You should see an eye doctor to decide on the best drop for you.

What can you tell me about the success rates of desensitization?

Please clarify.

Grass_allergy
From what I know of desensitization, it is a form of therapy for allergies that is supposed to make people less sensitive to things they are allergic to, like chocolate. They are exposed to a small amount, which gives a reaction, which, over time, gets less. It has been done for a long time with decent results, but is not employed as much as it once was.

I HAVE PERENNIAL ALLERGIC RHINITIS.I TRY EVERYTHING.CAN LASER DESENSITIZATION OF NASAL MUCOSA IS THE LAST CURE ?

Allergic rhinitis

Rhinitis
I have not heard about laser desensitization and I am a fellow in the American academy of otolaryngic allergists. This treatment, if it exists, has not been tested and approved. You need to be tested to see what you are allergic to and treated appropriately. You can get shots or you can put drops under the tongue (sublingual immunotherapy) for effective treatment. These are the treatments I know

Yes can be done

Allergies
Allergic reaction ( to any thing ) is complex process , several factors & different mechanisms are involved . Allergy - like penicillin which will give anaphylatic shock (and death ) is caused by Type-I Mast cell / IGE reaction , is being done for certain drugs , by specialized centers ( or offices ), and is not a routine procedure.

I am allergic to ALL antibiotics. Other than desensitization, what alternatives are there? What about intravenous mega doses of Vitamin C?

Antimicrobial herbs&

There are many herbs that are natural antimicrobials including olive leaf extract, garlic, andrographis, Japanese knotweed, cat's claw etc. Colloidal silver is a good option (though silver hydrosols like Sovereign silver are even better). Miracle Mineral Solution, while controversial, may help, as can IV vitamin C & ozone therapy. The book Herbal Antibiotics by Stephen Buhner is a useful resource.

Tubal ligation reversal success?

40% to 85%.

Tubal_ligation
But it depends on several factors: The best candidates for tubal reversal are women younger than age 40 who had sterilization surgery immediately following childbirth. Have you considered adopting? Probably cheaper, and the success rate is 100%! And you would be doing a good thing. A VERY good thing.

Dr. Jane Van Dis answered:

What is the success rate for ivf?

Depends

Ivf_pregnancy
IVF success is going to depend on a variety of factors such as, age of patient, previous pregnancy history, indication or reason for IVF, other medical conditions that can be contributing to infertility, and others. If you are asking about yourself, 26 is still very young and barring a diagnosis of premature ovarian failure, your chances for success are much better.

Any success treating arachnoiditis?

Tough case

Pain_relievers
Sorry to hear you have this condition. Since it is not correctable surgically you are really stuck with managing the symptoms. There are some interventional pain management techniques that may help. Spinal Cord Stimulation is an excellent option as an addition to medication management and psychological counseling for coping techniques.
