Doctor insights on:
Subcutaneous Hematoma Treatment
No real treatment: There really is no real treatment for this. If it is a very large calcified hematoma then you may want to consult a surgeon about possible removal. However, there is always the risk of it recurring in the same place.
Ovary: It is a bruizing or blood clot in the ovary. Usually does not need treatment.
Usually none: Most scalp hematomas will resolve without any surgery needed. The body will break the clot down as it does any bruise over time. Rarely if the hematoma is tense and expanding it can be drained by opening the skin and washing the area out. Those on blood thinners may have to stop them for a short time if there is an associated clot/bruise on the brain.
Subdural hematoma: If small and not causing a shift of brain structures in the skull, observation may be all that is necessary. If there is indication that the subdural hematoma is growing or causing symptoms due to increased pressure in the head, surgical drainage is the treatment.See 2 more doctor answers
Time of Injury: It depends on the time of the injury. If its acute, then I do agree with my colleagues that a heated paperclip and puncturing the nail will evacuate the hematoma. However if it is chronic, a total nail avulsion might have to be performed since the blood has probably thickened.See 2 more doctor answers
Should I seek further treatment for tibia hematoma, soft tissue damage due to auto accident that is still largely visible and painful 6 weeks later?
Tibial Hematoma: Yes, whenever a medical condition fails to adequately improve or resolve, it is important to follow-up with your doctor. Acute traumatic injuries, such as a tibial hematoma, that continue to be painful and largely visible at 6 weeks, warrant a second visit to re-evaluate the injury. An appropriate plan of care can be developed based on these findings.See 1 more doctor answer
Shin hematome: Sorry about your injury of shin hematoma. Please apply mild compression with such as an elastic banding and apply ice to the injured area 2-3 times a day. Under no circumstances puncture the hematoma. If there is an open wouond, antibiotics may be required both oral and topical as determined by your doctor.
What does it mean when you have "old blood" in your brain from an hematoma from when you were younger. What is the treatment if its causing headaches?
MRI report: Years after the bleeding, blood products called hemosiderin can be visualized. This is not a cause of your current headaches, and depending on the character of the head pain, such as migraine, treatment is typically directly either preventatively or abortively.
Daughter Demi received knock to chest playing netball a week ago and has large painful lump (Physio says is hematoma). What is the best treatment?
Rest, Ice, Elevate: Treatment of minor skin hematomas includes rest, ice, compression, and elevation. Heat application can also be helpful. Over time hematoma will gradually be reabsorbed and resolve. Just give it time. If lesion grows or becomes more painful with time see doctor for further work up and evaluation. Caution if you have pre-existing bleeding disorder.
I have a scrotal hematoma after vasectomy what's the best treatment doesn't hurt just uncomfortable was done on the 14 when can I take anti inflammato?
Here are some...: The most reasonable course of care at this time after vasectomy is leaving it alone as long as getting better in pain and hardness week by week. Meanwhile applying scrotal support in standing and elevating scrotum in lying position so to ease discomfort and enhance subsiding swelling. More? Ask your doctor timely.
REST: Apply ice try and rest, it will take a little time for the bruised bone to improve. Hematoma may have to be drained.
Was baker's cyst/thrombosis caused by car accident 3.5 months earlier given large bruising front of knee? Warfarin treatment caused large hematoma.
I went to the orthopedic np for knee pain. My MRI and x-rayshowed patellar tilt and hematoma. Treatment suggested:knee brace/warm compress. Should I go to a sports med or an orthopedic md for second opinion?
Need good exam: If the tilt was the only problem, fixing the mechanics that caused it would be the first step. In most athletes, this is working on the quad to hamstring strength ratio and strengthening the gluteus medius (many accidently over strengthen the itb/tfl, the other hip abductors, which can worsen the problem). Reasonable to start with non-op sports med, and if hematoma needs to be drained, see ortho.See 2 more doctor answers
I & D: The standard of care would be to make a small incision and allow it to drain. If for some reason it can't be incised than ir doctors can drain using ultrasound or ct.
I had a subcutaneous scalp hematoma removed 5 years ago but it has slowly reappeared 1 year ago - should I get it removed again or not? It doesn't hurt
Hematomas: Generally do NOT "re-appear" without TRAUMA You may have a sebaceous cyst Get it checked out! Hope this helps Dr Z
Of course, but: It depends on the location and size of the hematoma. Hematoma refers to an actual collection of blood rather than a bruise, which is more like a soaked sponge, with tissues being the sponge. Both will eventually reabsorb on their own, but hematomas may do better and resolve faster if aspirated with a needle by an expert in surgical anatomy.See 1 more doctor answer
