Not sure about ques: Subacute thyroiditis (often painful) is often caused by a virus, can cause transient hyper or hypothyroidism, but usually is self-limited. It does not produce granulomas. I've subacute thyroiditis, in hypo phase, my TSH getting better (5.5). Overall feeling better but still get bouts of hypo symptoms. Is that common?

Yes: Glad you're getting better. The nice thing about subacute dequervain thyroiditis is that the pain's usually manageable with nsaids and it self-cures in a few weeks. Good luck, and if you really need supplementation or suppression, your physician can handle it. ...Read more

Subacute thyroiditis: If your TSH is high and your other thyroid lab values (thyroid hormone levels) are normal, this means that you have subclinical hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism has been shown to cause delayed gastric emptying. Hopefully as your thyroid lab values return to normal your gastric symptoms will normalize as well. ...Read more
