Stuttering Child After High Fever
My 8 mth old (7 months corrected age) low grade fever 38.2-5 c for 3 days. Cold related. Tempra (acetaminophen) helps. She is fussy and lethargic. Doctor time?
9 yr old girl w high fever (101-104.5 ear) for 48 hrs and NO other symptoms.Alternating Adv/Tyl when temp reaches 102.She had febrile seizure @ 18 mths.High fever common 4 her, but not so long?
Youre on right track: Most fevers in kids are viral & improve within 72hrs. If not below 101 by 72hrs, or if having other worrisome symptoms, then seek care. Children under 3months old should be seen for any temp over 100.4. Reserving meds for higher fevers or feeling ill is good practice. Febrile seizures are rare at 9yrs old, and fever meds won't prevent seizures anyway. Hope she feels better soon. She probably will. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Why is my autistic 5 year old son (non-verbal), all of a sudden speaking, interacting and following simple commands? He has a cold, low grade fever.
Multiple reasons: The best reason would be a developmental leap in functioning. That would be great, and you could keep doing what you're doing from a behavioral standpoint. Occasionally an alteration like casein removal can cause temporary advancement, but that disappears after a few months. This may hint at a metabolic issue if illness helps in advancement. Make sure you've seen a geneticist and metabolic expert. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

13 m old kid had 3 day fever 98.8_99, then 2 days no fever. During this time he started cough with runny nose. His temperature is 98.8. Any concerns?
Depends: Continued fever with pneumonia while already on oral antibiotics can be of concern. It may be indicative of a pleural effusion (fluid in the lining of the lung). It can also just mean you need to give the antibiotics more time to work. I suggest discussing this with your doctor and getting a chest x-ray. ...Read more

Fever/antibiotics: Antibiotics may take 2-3 days for the infection to get bacterial infectionunder control times. Many causes: Any cause of fever can increase respiratory rate. This could be a sign of pneumonia or other serious bacterial infections. Fever and shortness of breath or difficult breathing is an even more concerning set of signs. The significance of these signs is dependent on the height of the fever and the severity of disturbed breathing. You should discuss this with your health care provider. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Are there lasting effects of h1n1 on an unborn baby? Had swine flu at 27 weeks, daughter was iugr. Severe speech apraxia, & high pitched squealing.
Possible.: I am sorry for your daughter's problems. One cannot be certain that they are due to h1n1 influenza during pregnancy - however, one cannot dismiss that possibility either. Many viruses cross the placenta and can affect various fetal tissues/organs. Other explanations for your daughter's problems should be investigated, namely metabolic, genetic and neurological syndromes unrelated to infections. ...Read more
High fever( 103)in 15 months old. With tylenol (acetaminophen) comes down for 2 hours. Is high temperature ok?
Fever from what?: A 103 fever by itself will not hurt the child. The question is, what is causing the fever? If it is the same respiratory virus (common cold) that the rest of the family has it is not a worry and may last up to 5-7 days. However, if the child has an undiagnosed ear infection, pneumonia or urinary tract infection, that would be more worrisome. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

My 8 year old son had febrile seizures at 3 due to underlying ear infection. he had a seizure due to food poisoning and fever - Is this febrile?
Wording matters: A febrile seizure is triggered by the fever & often comes on before you know the kid is sick. The label is usually reserved for infants & toddlers before school age.If a kid has a seizure when they are older,it begins to cross into the "seizure with fever" rather than because of fever. This subgroup can go on to face seizures for their lifetime.A thorough evaluation/discussion with his doc is needed ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
See a doctor: Fever usually means that the body is raising the temperature to stop viral or bacterial attacks. An infant retains the mother's antibodies for about 3 months. The infant's immature immune system takes over so the baby becomes more vulnerable . If the baby's temperature is very high or very low, it may be very serious go to emergency dept, hydrate, tepid not cold water for cooling, take a temperature. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
A child had 3 febrile seizure started phenobarbital when he's 1yr, after a year of medication no seizure episode and EEG normal. When 2 stop taking PB?
Under supervision!: Factors you should consider include your child's overall health, his immunization status, how old he was when he had his last seizure and how certain his doctor is that these were truly febrile seizures. If you get the "go ahead", I recommend tapering the PB over 1-2 weeks, while watching out for signs of infection or unusual behavior and being prepared to treat a fever quickly if one develops. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
33 yr old adult autistic nonverbal female. 6hours after eating extreme coughing acid reflux gas and mucus. 4 years no cure no new ideas from local?
Need new specialist: You need to take this poor soul to a major medical center for better evaluation and treatment. There is no reason for her to suffer for four years with this - that is just cruel. Find a major city near where you live, see if they have a medical school and/or residency program for GI or GI surgery, and set up appointment. If you need further suggestions where, send where you live in new question. ...Read more
