Post-tussive cough.: When we're sick with an upper or lower respiratory infection, the cough tends to be the last symptom to clear. This is called a post-tussive cough which, as you can surmise, means "post-cough cough". The coughing itself makes the cough linger. The solution? Cough suppressant. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Paranoia: While there is a well known link to lung cancer with decades of cigarette use, I cant link a years exposure & these minor symptoms to throat cancer. Common things are more common. The smoking would irritate the tissues & make them more susceptible to germ invasion. This may be little more than a virus. Your doc can examine and decide. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Sore throats tricky: It's so hard to predict accurately when a sore throat IS NOT a strep throat. Your symptoms SOUND like either viral pharyngitis or allergic, right? But, you could also have strep. I would drink fluids, take a little something to knock the pain down a little, maybe some Motrin, and get a strep test done...you can go to a Minute Clinic or something....but I'd get it done. ...Read more

Inhaled corticosteroid nasal sprays may help too. See your Dr for appt. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
