Is it true that strontium draws calcium into the bones, or that strontium can be used by the body to replace calcium to an extent?

Is it true that strontium draws calcium into the bones, or that strontium can be used by the body to replace calcium to an extent?

Several functions: Strontium actually replaces calcium within the lattice work of the bone and in part, it's increased "weight" relative to calcium contributes to some part of increased bone density. But strontium also stimulates the bone building cells(osteoblasts) to build up bone and inhibits bone resorbing cells(osteoclasts) which also improves bone density. ...Read more

The bone dr gave me strontium ranelate for my osteoporosis t-3.5. Is it true it increases risk for breast cancer recurrence?

No :): There is not a single paper published using the words strontium renalate and cancer in its title: http://www.Ncbi.Nlm.Nih.Gov/pubmed?Term=(strontium%20ranelate%5btitle%5d)%20and%20cancer%5btitle%5d i think you can be reassured. There is a radioactive strontium that is sometime used for bone metastasis treatment, and that, or course, would be more concerning. ...Read more

2yrs ago osteopenia t -2.4, 7 months ago t-3.7, spinal. Yesterday t -2.3 on DEXA after strontium ranelate - has someone made a mistake in tests?

Unlikely: Generally, an interval dexa scan is not suggested for a minimum of 18 to 24 months. Certainly a mistake is always possible... 1. Was this done on the same dexa machine? 2. Same locations and technician? As such, your replacement with strontium appears to have helped build bone mass and that's why you see an improvement. ...Read more
