Strong Visible Pulse In Neck
I have a strong visible pulse in my neck when resting. Normal ekg and bloodwork, it just has me worried. Is this normal? I am 23 years old and male.
Prob normal: If you're thin this isn't unusual. Ask your doctor - very likely nothing to be concerned about. ...Read more

Pulse: What you are feeling when you are feeling the pulse is the pulse pressure. It is possible to have a high systolic and also a high diastolic with a narrow pulse pressure and generate a smaller sensation than a normal systolic and normal or wide pulse pressure. That said, it is an oversimplification and isn't strictly correct in every physiologic situation. ...Read more
Is it normal for the pulse on right side of neck to feel stronger than the left? More apparent in the evening. Rhythm is regular, not too fast.
Something or nothing: Sorry to be equivocal, but this could be something or could be unremarkable. A physical exam with attention to the carotid pulse (on both sides of neck) would be required to evaluate for carotid stenosis--which is narrowing of the inside of vessel usually due to cholesterol buildup found in older patients. In your age, I would consider coarctation of aorta which you would have been born with. ...Read more
Can the pulse be strong but still the BP be normal? If I feel the pulse strong in me neck it is probably high BP right? And if I don't its the opposite
The harder and stronger your pulse in your neck is the higher your BP probably is right? Could I have higher BP when I almost have no palpation pulse?
No connection: Although it would seem to follow that the higher your blood pressure the stronger your pulse would be, I don't believe that is the case. A week or non-palpable pulse may indicate the presence of partial or complete blockage of an artery by atherosclerosis. My guess is that you are not palpating in the correct area to feel your pulse. If you had no pulse you wouldn't be able to write us :) ...Read more
Could my arteries rupture if my BP gets too high? Have prob. That makes BP super high after small things and pulse gets super strong in neck
Not very likely: You are young and presumably healthy. Arteries don't just rupture even with very high blood pressure unless they are diseased. Highly unlikely at your age. It does sound like you might benefit from some counseling or perhaps some biofeedback training to help control these exaggerated responses that you have. ...Read more

Lying on left side felt pulse in left ribcage. Checked hr.80 bpm. Felt strong pulse near the base of neck/left side. Pulse in back neck anxiety related?
Yes: You have "cardiac awareness" a common but not pathological symptom in which you become aware of your heart beat. The heart is a left sided structure and more easily felt on the left side, especially when lying on your left side. ...Read more
I have a visible pulse in my neck on both sides while standing, but when I lie down the pulse on my right front side of neck is more prominent. Is this normal?
Yes: In many people the carotid arteries in the neck can be visualized pulsating while standing or laying. When laying down the position of the structures in our neck and body may change and that may be the reason for the difference you are noting between standing and laying. Without other issues, I believe this is normal for you. Have a good day ...Read more
I'm tachycardic I'm on 2.5mg of bisop it keeps my hr between 70-80 beats a minute but my pulse in my neck so strong at times is that normal?
See answer: The "strength" of the carotid artery pulse is subjective and only has significance in certain clinical settings such as syncope and cardiac arrest. In these settings a weak pulse may indicate significantly low blood pressure. A strong pulse would be a good sign and absence of a pulse would indicate cardiac arrest. ...Read more

My neck vein above my left collarbone is always very visible almost bulging w/pulse. I've never had this before. What could cause this?
Normal variant?: It's possible that it could be a narrowing of the vein between there and the heart, or a clot in the vein, but either of those would be extremely unlikely in a healthy 20 year old man without a significant surgical history. The more likely cause is that it is just a normal variant. We all have a little abnormality or asymmetry with one thing or another. ...Read more

Neck vein starting just above left collarbone bulges even in resting standing position. Leads to visible pulse where you would chk it. Possible tumor?
Veins are soft to fe: If you place your finger on this area and try to take a feel, you will know if it feels hard, firm or soft. Unless it is firm to hard in feel, it is probably just a normal vein. If you are still unsure and concerned then you need to have your doctor examine you and also check inside your chest with a Chest X-ray to make sure that there is no tumor inside your chest. ...Read more

What causes bulging vein/ artery in neck with visible pulse? Is it a sign I'm too skinny? Or a different underlying condition?
Common finding: Many people are thin enough to have easily visible neck veins and arteries. When you are lying down, these vessels are more prominent and the veins often become difficult to see when you are upright. If your vessels are more prominent than normal (a doctor's physical exam is needed), it can be a sign of a more serious vascular condition, but if you are otherwise healthy, that is very unlikely ...Read more
Sitting at computer and felt a flutter in chest. I assumed palpitation. I immediately checked pulse in neck andwas no strong beat, just weak stutter.

What does a strong and slow pulse indicate and what does a fast and weak indicate? Can u have high blood pressure in ur neck but normal in ur arm?
PulsePressure & Rate: Pulse strength: a result of the pulse pressure; the difference in the systolic vs. diastolic pressure; a result of (a) cardiac stoke volume vs. (b) arterial volume & (c) elasticity (assuming no Aortic Regurg. Or AV shunts). Pulse is a result of each heart beat, thus will never be faster than heart rate; but can be slower (some heart pumps not felt). If major arteries are open then pressures ~same. ...Read more
Could my visible artery and pulse on the left side of my neck indicate swollen lymph nodes or a tumor in my neck?
Easy does it, Steve: Most people have a visible vein on each side of the neck, especially when they're lying down, and most people's carotid arteries are visible. These have nothing to do with your lymph nodes. Do you have palpable nodes? A palpable tumor? Is it possible you're just physically fit and your neck structures are thus more visible? The vast majority of swollen nodes in a young guy like you are harmless. ...Read more

My throat is sore down by my voice box area on rt side goes down & up into jaw & pulse is real strong on that side. Why could that be? Ear hurts too.
Throat infection: Sounds like you may have an infection that started in your throat and is now also affecting the ear (because they are connected back behind your face). The pulsing sensation is your body sending more blood to the area with infection-fighting cells to clear out the infection. If you are getting fevers, see white pus on your tonsils or feel worse, see a doctor. ...Read more
