Strep throat: No. First of all, he should be diagnosed by his doctor who will prescribe an antibiotic if he has it. Be careful with the scrapings because they maybe contagious. ...Read more

I was wondering are dull white bumps strep throat?

Strep Throat: Though there are several signs and symptomsfor strep throat, the only way to know for sure is to be tested. If you have a sore throat, regardless of the other signs and symptoms, it's a good idea to have your doctor test you. ...Read more

Chronic tonsillitis: may be associated with seasonal allergies, chronic sinusitis and possible even tonsil "stones". It is not fun to be sick all the time and be on antibiotics half a year, So, Although it is a painful, "bloody" surgery as an Adult I would consider having an ENT take a look to see if you are a candidate for elective removal of tonsils and adenoids. ...Read more

Possible, But...: From your description, it sounds more like strep throat, or tonsillitis. Mono, is possible, but at this point, but with information given, it's a stretch. You would have swollen lymph nodes of the neck, general lethargy, and not be localized to the throat area alone. Either way, you might want a culture taken to be sure, and i would see you pcp for that to be done. Best of luck to you! ...Read more

I was diagnosed with a viral infection and was only given pain medication. Does that sound right? I have a sore throat and white bumps in my throat. I went to the doctor and they completed a swab and said i did not have strep throat. They also took blood

Antibiotics : Antibiotics do nothing for viral infections. Rest, fluids, and time are your best strategy (maybe chicken soup as well!). Obviously, if you are not improving, or have significant worsening, such as high fever or productive cough, then get back in to your primary care doctor. Good luck! ...Read more

Recurrent strep: infection occurs about 10% of the time, in spite of taking the antibiotic, and more often if one stops the medication after feeling better instead of completing the course. In the lab, strep is very sensitive to penicillin, but not all people absorb it well or may have other bacteria in their throat that make it less effective. Get another culture and other med. Possible other germ like mono. ...Read more

My son just recently had strep throat and now he has these large bumps on his tongue. Can u tell me what us that?

Possibly normal: If they are on the back of his tongue and they do not hurt, then this is normal. We all have several very large taste buds (called vallate papilla) on the back of our tongues, but rarely realize they are there. Now that you are "looking" because of the strep throat you are noticing these taste buds. If they do hurt then have him reevaluated by his doctor. ...Read more
