How to get rid of strep throat fast without an antibiotic?

You can't: If you have actually been diagnosed with strep throat (with a test....It can't be accurately diagnosed by looking at it), then it is really important to clear it up with an antibiotic. The bacteria that causes strep throat can cause other problems with your kidneys or heart, and no alternative medicine will prevent those problems from happening. ...Read more

I have strep throat and have been on the antibiotic for a little over 24 hours. Can I kiss my boyfriend and have oral sex without giving it to him now?

I have strep throat and have been on the antibiotic for a little over 24 hours. Can I kiss my boyfriend and have oral sex without giving it to him now?

Depends: Most consider 24 hours on meds enough to consider you not contagious. However, this is generally what we use in discussing public settings. For deep kissing or intense exposure it might be good to give it an extra day or two. ...Read more

I have strep throat. I started my antibiotic on tuesday. I still see the white spots in the back of my throat, can I scrap it out without reactivating?

I have strep throat. I started my antibiotic on tuesday. I still see the white spots in the back of my throat, can I scrap it out without reactivating?

Be patient: The material you see is just debris and will shed over time with resumption of better feeding activity/roughage ingestion. The less you tinker with the area the less likely you are to introduce other germs into the already irritated area, some of which will not be killed off by an antibiotic you are using. An abscess could form requiring urgent surgical decompression. ...Read more

Will strep throat go away on its on, or do you have to take an antibiotic?

You MUST...: ...Take antibiotics for strep throat. The symptoms will go away on their own. The reason we treat strep throat is to avoid complications like damage to your heart and kidneys. There is no alternative medical treatment (homeopathy, herbs, etc.). When i was in homeopathy class, one of my classmates asked the instructor how to homeopathically treat strep; he said "use penicillin.". ...Read more

Hi it been a week i been diagnose with strep throat still haven't gone away even with antibiotic should I worry?

Sore throat: First, who examined? Did anyone evaluate for a peritonsillar abscess? And did they do a monospot? Many 'strep throats' are actually mono, which while strep bacteria may be present in a culture, the strep isn't the cause of symptoms. If it's mono, an ebv panel might help, but the treatment is rest and no Aspirin if it is. ...Read more

My doctor diagnose me with strep throat gave me antibiotic but my thorat still aches and i finish all my medication now what should I do?

May be another germ: Old saying "if treatment is not working the diagnosis may be wrong" is true for this case. Even if you had a positive strep test, you could have mono to begin with at the same time. If so, symptoms could linger for weeks. ...Read more

Need to recheck: You should return for a recheck appt. Strep throat symptoms pass quickly with treatment, but sometimes can relapse. But also extreme fatigue and not feeling well may indicate something else going on and so perhaps some basic blood tests are in order. Also sometimes mono can occur with strep throat and that can be tested for because that may require more time to pass. ...Read more

I took antibiotic for strep throat which didn't work. Doctor switched me to clarithromycin yesterday. Today I have one hive. Should i be worried?

I took antibiotic for strep throat which didn't work. Doctor switched me to clarithromycin yesterday. Today I have one hive. Should i be worried?

Prob not: One red, itchy, raised spot (hive) is not usually a sign of a systemic alleric reaction. If you are having an allergic reaction, you will know it shortly, the one hive will become many. If that happens, stop the antibiotic, take a benadryl, and call your doc or head to the er. ...Read more
