I have a 2 year old and the Dr. Diagnost her with strep throat they gave her shot Tuesday how long does strep throat last. She still has pain?
Not unusual: I would run it by the doc that saw her Tuesday, because there are rare things that could be complicating her strep throat, like an abscess, but it is not all that unusual to feel crappy for 5-7 days if had a bad case of it. It is natures way of letting you know it is still fighting the infection and you need rest and nutrition. If still running a fever, definitely give doc a call back! ...Read more
I tested positive for strep throat, was given a shot of penicilin, and after a day my symptoms feel like they have gotten worse, is this normal?
Possibly: Once an infection by strep has established itself it will take some time for the antibiotic to catch up /kill enough germs to stop the continued swelling and discomfort and begin the process of repairing tissues. To date, strep is universally killed by penicillin, so if that is your only issue, a little more time will provide improvement. Some cases of mono can be strep + and the sx overlap. ...Read more

My 2 year old Has strep throat, she got a shot on Wednesday morning it's Saturday and she is still not feeling good and shehas blister in her mouth?
It happens: Did they verify the strep with a test? Was the shot a penicillin based drug? Even if both were done, some kids carry additional throat germs (viruses) as a co-infection and take longer to improve. As long as the kid stays well hydrated and is feeding okay, you can monitor through the weekend. Call the office on Monday if things are not improving. ...Read more
Depends/works: For the average adult, the amount needed would require a load into both rear ends at the same session. There is too much volume to put in an arm shot or one bottom. A shot of what?: It is unusual to treat a strep throat with a shot in the thigh. Usually this problem is treated with an appropriate oral antibiotic. TO shoot or not?: First, you don't want a shot of Ampicillin - you would want a shot of penicillin, because there is a long acting form of that which will treat your strep throat. There is no long acting ampicillin. Then, it depends on each individual - if you are good about remembering to take your oral medicine and take them all, then pills work fine. Typically 48 hours.: Bicillin injection is convenient, but rather painful and expensive way to treat strep. In most cases, the good old penicillin is the #1 recommended treatment for strep infection. Oral formualtion is much cheaper. Typically, you should see improvement from strep (if the bug is sensitive to it) quite rapidly, often within 48 hours. If by tomorrow n u r not better, consult doc. Good luck. ...Read more

I had strep throat 10 days ago. Went to doc was given a penicillin shot think bicillin felt better 2 days later but still have small pus on tonsils? ?
Strep throat: Even though you have been treated the pus is signed of dead cells and as long as the rest of the symptoms are resolving or completely resolved does not mean the infection is not better. I would wait a couple of days and if every other symptoms is resolved this should go away soon. If the symptoms are the same or worse you might need an alternative antibiotic. ...Read more
