Autoimmunity: It is a fact that streptococcal infections of the throat or elsewhere can cause glomerulo-nephritis or even myocarditis. The mechanism is thought to be an autoimmune response to a protein on the bacterium that cross reacts to a similar protein on the person's own tissue. This is called auto-immunity and is only one of many autoimmune diseases in humans such as lupus, diabetes type i and anemia. ...Read more

Specialist: My advice is to consult an infectious disease specialist. Although rare, seronegative cases of hiv do occur and require a RNA testing to detect viremia although I would expect the specialist to order any appropriate tests in order to make a diagnosis in your case after he/she evaluates you. Bring all your test results to the appointment. ...Read more

All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, if you were dehydrated when the blood sample was collected, that may explain the "high" level. It would have helped to have the actual values.
Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. I have strep throat & started taking amoxicillin yesterday its twice a day @ 875mg. I noticed today that my urine is bright yellow almost orange color?
Vitamin overdose: You might also be taking some vitamin supplements? Particularly B-vitamins? I don't actually recommend vitamin supplements unless you have a 'real' reason to take them. I don't think the Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) is at fault here-but it's quite possible you're dehydrated from your illness. I would drink as much fluid as you can: thin soups, ginger tea, lemonade, coconut water etc to support your body through this ...Read more

Common problem.: I assume you are on antibiotics. If not you need to be. Small amounts of blood in the mucus are common with infections of the nose and throat. IF you have a lot of bleeding or you still have fever after 72 hours, can't swallow liquids, shortness of breath etc. call doc right away or get seen again. This should clear up as you recover. ...Read more

Hard to say: I assume you are commenting on a strep antibody test, since you would be very sick with strep in your blood. Adults can have ASO and similar tests at higher than expected levels form rather insignificant illnesses. A single skin infection, minor sore throat, or other issue can push up a titer. In the absence of symptoms it is viewed as a curiosity, not a sign of active disease. ...Read more

Doctor said I have strep throat. Is it normal for me to cough up tiny bits of blood alongside of mucus?
Not unusual: Some individuals get marked inflammation from strep throat, and with cough, fragile blood vessels could rupture and cause bleeding. This should resolve with treatment. Be sure to complete your full course of medication, as the strep infection tends to flare if only partially treated. ...Read more

It should not...: Masturbation will not cause blood in the urine or the urine to appear dark or red.
