Infections are invasions of some other organism (fungus, bacteria, parasite) or viruses into places where they do not belong. For instance, we have normal gut bacteria that live within us without causing problems; however, when those penetrate the bowel wall and enter the bloodstream, ...Read more
Resolved eye infection 9 days ago with ABx throat is still very sore. Doctor says it looks fine but the pain is behind the tonsils where you cant see.
Keep gargling with: Warm saline (1 tsp salt in glass of warm water and stir.) It can take time to heal. You can check with your PCP to find out what to do. If you have post nasal drip, it can irritate it more. You can use OTC Tylenol or Motrin to alleviate the pain. If it's feeling swollen with fever or headache, see your doctor in person for further management. ...Read more

Faint headache heaviness, small lump behind the left side of my neck, had an eye infection few days back. Could be related? Or is it related to stress
Possibly: I definitely don't think you get lumps in your neck or eye infections from stress. I think we would most usually expect a palpable/"feel able" lymph node from an eye infection to be behind the ear but the neck is not that far away! Perhaps there was some low grade infection near your eye as well. If all improving, OK to watch; if lymph node enlargement persists 3-4 weeks, see Doc. Stay well! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Separate real estate: Ear infections arise after mucous accumulates in the middle ear during a cold or other event. Throat germs climb up the Eustachian tubes to feed on it. It becomes a separate walled off infection. A person can acquire a strep throat at near the same time but not from the ear. (the germs of ear infections are different.) ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Hey, I never really smoked before but yesterday I had a few and now I have some white spots on my throat. Strep throat? Mononucleosis? Infection?
Likely an infection: Most sore throats are caused by viruses and do not require antibiotics. Rest. Drink lots of fluids. Gargle with warm salt water 4 x/day. Take Tylenol (acetaminophen) up to 4 times/day if you have a fever or feel uncomfortable. If your symptoms do not improve in 4-5 days you should have a strep test. If strep throat is not treated with antibiotics, it can lead to serious consequences. DON'T SMOKE! ...Read more
Does strep throat happen because of an infection literally in the throat? Or are the pathogens somewhere else?
Throat culture: Is the most specific means to determining the exact cause of a sore throat. Rapid tests such as throat swabs will detect Strep infections with 80% accuracy, but will provide no information about a specific viral cause. Blood tests may be helpful in determining if antibiotics are warranted. Be wary of those who diagnose a throat infection by sight alone. ...Read more
Hi can a ear infection cause strep throat because My throat is hurting it started hurting today. So could ear infection turn into strep throat.?
An ear infection is always secondary to an infection, viral or bacterial in the back of the nose. Never the other way around. That is, an ear infection does not lead to a throat infection.
It is most likely that a throat/nose infection, usually viral leads to an ear infection. Incidentally, Streptococcus is not a common bacterial cause of otitis media. ...Read more
