Strep Infection In Foot
I just had surgery on my foot. 2 days later I developed fracture blisters and a strep infection. Are these related to the surgery?
Infections are invasions of some other organism (fungus, bacteria, parasite) or viruses into places where they do not belong. For instance, we have normal gut bacteria that live within us without causing problems; however, when those penetrate the bowel wall and enter the bloodstream, ...Read more
Viral infection 4 days now rapid strep came back neg the doc suspect strep did a culture as well but im now have burning feet. Associated? Lowlegpain2?
Varies: Strep is a bacterial infection and so a viral infection will be negative for strep. It is fairly common for patients with viral infections to get pains in their joints and muscles. It can be from toxins from the infection itself or even be as a result of the bodies immune response to the infection. Don't hesitate to discuss with your doctor. ...Read more

In addition to a good history and physical, skin and nail problems are a visual problem, a luxury I don't have here. A culture may be taken. Fungal nail infections have an appearance of thickening, brittle, brown, maybe an odor. Bacterial nail infections are painful, red, swollen, with drainage.

Gyn ran tests for infection. Found out I have group b strep and neg other. Is there anything I need to do for that? Don't plan on having any kids.
Not uncommon: Group b strep is a common germ found in the female genital tract. At any time as many as 1/3 will have it. It also comes and goes over time without treatment. It is important near the end of a pregnancy when it can transfer to the baby and cause serious infection. It can occasionally be a cause for a uti. It is unlikely to be of significance to you. ...Read more

25 days ago I cut bottom of foot on a bed frame. Cut 1-1.5 inches. No sign of infection but still hasn't healed completely. Is this normal for a foot?
Healing: A cut that is deep may take a little longer on the bottom of the foot. The skin edges should be reapproximated as best as possible to speed up the healing staying off the foot or using crutches may speed healing. I would consult a physician to make sure no other structures were injured. Good luck. ...Read more
Not likely but...:
If you have an underlying medical problem such as diabetes or peripheral vascular disease, and if the infection spreads into the bloodstream and you are immunocompromised, death can (rarely) treat it.
Taking it seriously, getting the medical and/or surgical care needed reduces the likelihood of this way down. ...Read more
Possibly: Simple math dictates the more people in a confined area, the more germs are present. With the thousands of people going through airport security lines daily, there is definitely a high likelihood of large numbers of bacteria and fungi present. We disinfect our treatment chairs after every patient. I've never seen tsa using spray disinfectant.... I'd wear socks and wash hands frequently. ...Read more

Feeling unwell after strep infection - I am still feeling a bit weak and very tired after a strep infection. I have 2 days of amoxicyllin left?
Revisit your doctor.: Typically we doctors are trained to think of one disease--one diagnosis. However, the longer I practice medicine, the more I have come to realize that life is not so simple. We frequently have patients with strep and mononucleosis, or strep and influenza; so, maybe you have a "double diagnosis" as well. Please schedule a follow-up visit with your doctor. Some strep infxns express copathogenicity. ...Read more

Hi, I am having huge cracks on heels n feet. They are painful. It has been three years I am having this problem! Is it a infection or something? Help??!
Not an infection: Cracked heels are caused by excessive buildup of dead skin. When the dead skin gets too thick the friction causes tearing of the living layer of the skin, leading to an open wound and pain. These can become infected but are painful even without an infection. There are many types of prescription strength creams that can help. I recommend you see a podiatrist for evaluation and treatment. ...Read more
