I have pain on my tongue. Some is a muscle strain and some is from a wound caused from a dental scraper. What is best treatment for both Situations?
Traumatic injury: Is the most common cause of tongue pain. Use mouth rinses to relieve pain, avoid spicy food, tobacco and alcohol. Tongue soreness usually resolves within a few days. However, if this condition does not subside in a week, See a dentist or physician for help.

Keep it simple: A sprain is when a ligament or tendon is injured by overstretching. There may be minimal or quite a bit of damage to it. Inflammation (redness, warmth, tenderness, and swelling) occurs as a natural healing process. The key is to minimize further damage while keeping the area flexible and mobile. Ice massage (24-36 hours), compression and elevation are the keys to maximize healing.Motrin/advil help.
Acutely Yes: Acutely icing an injured area reduces the inflammatory response/swelling to the area. There is no exact period that defines the acute phase but icing upto 2-3 days post injury is recommended. Afterwards icing following irritating activities (including physical therapy) should be continued for several days/weeks. Heat can be introduced 3-4 days after injury to encourage blood flow to injured area.
Very painful: If can vary from mild to severe pain. If it is severe see your doctor. If it is acute you can ice it till you see the doctor.
