How can I reduce the risk of stork-bite birthmarks in my baby?

How can I reduce the risk of stork-bite birthmarks in my baby?

You can't: If it is in the genes it will show up on the baby. I often see a pattern of storks bite marks in several family members or they may come up as a new finding . I've never had a parent complain about the mark in > 30 years of practice. Given what I have seen over the years i'm just happy when the parts are ale there & seem to fit. ...Read more

Newborn has v at top of bum crease and what looks like a small stork bite (5-7mm) about two inches above in midline back. Unlikely tethered cord?

Yes, unlikely: Look up pilonidal dimple and pilonidal sinus. Dimple is not rare and commonly benign. Sinus can be an issue. If you are worried then you need further evaluation via a pediatrician. If the situation warrants then an MRI might show evidence for tethered cord, but this is a rare condition. ...Read more

Would a stork bite at the nape of the neck have any relation to chiari malformation?

Would a stork bite at the nape of the neck have any relation to chiari malformation?

Alternatively, he could've drilled into the spinal canal & sucked out 1/3 of your fluid so your cerebellar tonsils could be vacuumed through the foramen magnum. Otherwise, grievance to Mother Nature to be sent ...Read more

Newborn has tiny (1mm) sacral dimple in gluteal crease and what looks like a tiny stork bite in the center of his lower back. How likely is this occult spinal dysraphism? Dr never mentioned anything.

Excellent question: Most sacral dimples are benign, provided there is complete skin coverage. Dimples with a tiny hole at base could be sign of spinal dysraphism or tethered spinal cord & would need to be evaluated. lumbo-sacral ultrasound is excellent, non-invasive study to rule out cord tethering. ...Read more

Standing up from the floor hit the top of my head with granite kitchen worktop.I felt a bit shaken only symptom a bit nauseous 13h after should go A&E?

Yes : If several hours after sustaining some blunt trauma to head, you still feel dizzy and nauseous, you should get yourself checked to rule out brain contusion or internal bleed, which even if present need to be watched for resolution on its own. But getting proper diagnosis is the key to rule out other possibilities. ...Read more

I'm so sick of hearing my 5yo say she's full after 3 bites. It's driving me insane.... Please help e get her to actually finish something.

If otherwise normal,: A parent can ask the pediatrician about such symptoms. A normal 5 year-old will eat when he is hungry. So, the first thing to do is to make sure he is "very hungry" at the beginning of breakfast, lunch, and dinner. That means it's the parent's job to OFFER age-appropriate, nutritious foods at mealtimes... but it's the child's job to eat, without any forcing. Achieve this by creating hunger. ...Read more

Do not worry: E coli is everywhere, including your tap water. It is a particular strain if E coli that causes problems. You are unlikely to get that from what you described. God forbid you get bloody diarrhea, go to the near hospital emergency room. ...Read more
