Talk to doctor: You should never stop a medication without discussing the decision with your doctor. He/she will advice if it is appropriate to stop, if you need an alternative, etc.

Not entirely correct: Ideal BP for all is 120/80. Having said that, as u r young, and if no other co-morbidities, first line treatment for excess BP is lifestyle changes. In other words, after a concerted effort to limit your salt intake to <2000 mg/day, increasing your exercise (even waking 20-25 mins briskly) and effectuating even loss of 5 pounds of weight, BP will improve. Failing that and still excess BP, then med

Not quite yet: The patents for valsartan and valsartan/hydrochlorothiazide are scheduled to expire in september 2012. Some company will certainly release a generic product quickly, but when it happens is up to the market and manufacturer.

Antihypertensive: This drug is an angiotensin receptor blocker used to treat hypertension. It is considered helpful in promoting healing of the kidney tissue and is a good choice in persons who develop a cough on drugs called ace inhibitors (angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors).

Accurate reading: Be sure the you are taking the BP appropriately. By your provider. Calibrate your home machine as well.

Same drug: Valsartan is generic Diovan (valsartan). Assuming the generic comes from a reputable pharmaceutical company, there should be no problem in switching.

Can I take Diovan (valsartan) (12.5mg) per tablet, with yohimbe?

Probably: No contraindications that I see. Yohimbe is used by many to improve libido but being a supplement is not regulated by the fda so use with caution & please let your physician know how much & how often you are using it.
