Stopped Estrogen Progesterone Flashes
For some yes: Estroven is an over the counter herbal supplement to improve hormonal imbalance during perimenopause. It can help women who have mild symptoms and are good candidates for hormone use. (a poor candidate are women with heart disease, diabetes, cancers, blood clots). If you have severe symptoms, this will not help and you can consider bio identical hormone replacement. ...Read more
OBGYN says blood hormone levels normal only elevated estrogen, not perimenopausal. Isn't estrogen dominance a sign of progesterone drop=perimenopause?

No: Premarin (conjugated estrogens), (conjugated estrogens) a synthetic estrogen, is prescribed for menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness, anxiety etc. It can actually increase vaginal bleeding. Progesterone is prescribed to counter dysfunctional uterine bleeding. It is also prescribed to woman put on Premarin (conjugated estrogens) that still have a uterus to counter the effect that estrogenic Premarin (conjugated estrogens) has on uterus. ...Read more
Interesting question: Nocturnal secretion of melatonin has been shown to affect secretion of prolactin. To my knowledge melatonin can exacerbate mild hyperprolactinemia. The relationship between Progesterone and prolactin i think is more unclear. We know thatprogesterone can affect prolactin in various ways. I'm curious to know in what context you would like to know the answer to this question? ...Read more

When prometrium (micronized progesterone) stimulates instead of sedates a perimenopausal woman what should be taken? Estrogen in combo with prometrium (micronized progesterone)?
Go see your doctor: While our impression of estrogen for perimenopausal women has changed dramatically over the last decade, it still should be used for right reason, and sedation is not one of them. So go see your prescribing doctor & tell her/him about your side effects so that s/he can offer you some alternatives (rather than just throw more medications at you). ...Read more
Taking 0.5 estradoil 5 mg provera (medroxyprogesterone) getting yeast inf itch will HRT cause this? Too much estrogen or progestrogen?
Possible: I have had women tell me that taking hormones causes them increased yeast infections. More common, yeast infections can be a result of more direct changes to vaginal environment. New vaginal lubricant, new soap products, changes in diet/exercise/sleep/stress. A great book to assess yeast vaginitis is the v book. You could also consider taking some vaginal probiotics to see if that helps. ...Read more
Is taking an o-t-c estrogen pill better than prempro (conjugated estrogens and medroxyprogesterone)? I worry about getting cancer with prempro (conjugated estrogens and medroxyprogesterone).
Estrog amt not known: The 2002 study showed and increased risk, not an occurance of breast cancer, presumably due to the pro part of prempro (conjugated estrogens and medroxyprogesterone). Speak with your dr. About a different hormone combination. A known amount of hormone in a medication is far superior to otc meds...If you really need them. At age 40, i would also check with your dr as to whether you are menopausal. ...Read more

Yes: Prometrium (micronized progesterone) doe not inhibit your own ovulation. And it is safe to take in pregnancy so that is why it is a nice medicine. Nope: Taking hormone replacement will not delay menopause. This will happen regardless of which hormones are taken.
