Help! Stool dark brown - not black, definitely, but dark. Bits of food in it. Dullpain in lower right quadrant that I think is muscular, but not sure.
Don't panic, but...: Dark-colored stools may result from iron supplements, foods you eat (like a lot of spinach), substances (like peptobismol), but most significantly suggests bleeding. When blood is denatured by acid in your stomach, as from ulcers, stools will turn tarry ("melena"). Blood may also be ingested from nose bleeds, bleeding gums. Have a test to determine if you are bleeding! A simple stool test is ll that's necessary. DO IT SOON. Black stools are not normal unless you are taking IRON!

Green/brown is likely either infection or your normal bacteria being thrown off by antibiotics or something you ate.
Black splotches without pain aren't concerning. Blood or worsening black stools is concerning.

Test obtained from your Primary Care Physician's Office will disclose any blood in your stool (which could explain the black stools) Otherwise your diet pretty much influences the color of your stools! Sounds like you need a "check up"...make an appointment TODAY!

I don't think you: Need to worry, but I would continue to watch it. Very likely the dark brown digested products of something you ate or took (especially iron) were processed and collected up against your usual color stool.
