Ulcers: Generally acidic foods like vinegar, wine, oj, lemon juice, lime juice, tomatoes as well as spicy foods, fried/fatty foods, caffeine/coffee & soda pop exacerbate ulcers. Even milk should have as low fat content as person can tolerate. Hopefully she is taking medication to help heal the ulcer; then she will gradually be able to eat the foods she enjoys again. ...Read more

Unsure about ?: Actually diet has very little to do in causing stomach ulcer although coffee and tea tend to stimulate more acid production and NSAID should be avoided. I presume you have been checked for H pylori infection. ...Read more

Not likely, but...: it is not likely that you have an ulcer, but with symptoms such as that, it is certainly possible. For now, I would avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, and any over-the-counter pain relievers except for Tylenol (acetaminophen). I would use over-the-counter antacids such as Tums whenever you have stomach pain. If you find that you need antacids more than 2 to 3 times per week, I would see your doctor. Is it ok to drink something acidic like orange juice after a meal if u have a stomach ulcer ? Would the food act as a barrier ie protect the lining

OK IF YOU ARE TREATE: Even though orange juice is very acidic and is adviced not to be consumed if you have peptic ulcer, but if you are being treated with antibiotics for h pylori which causes the ulcer and you have finished the two weeks course and are taking proton pump inhibiters to suppress the acid production in your stomach, you may be able to tolerate orange juice or you can get low acidity orange juice. ...Read more

Hard to see blood in: Blood is often difficult to see when it is in small amounts /mixed with stools. The commonest cause of symptoms like you have is acid reflux(one/ of 5 people have it). Usually it causes lots of burps and regurgitation of acid/food in the throat/ mouth. A short trial of an antacid like Pepcid (famotidine) at bed time daily might help clarify the cause. There are stronger antacids you can use, if Pepcid (famotidine) helps. ...Read more
