Pain and bleeding: Drinking too much is not a good idea.
Perhaps more important, at age 47 she should see a Gynecologist to make sure there is no issue with loosing control of her periods!

Yes: Alcohol intake can cause bleeding in the intestine through multiple mechanisms. Alcohol is a poison and never did anybody any good. Your girl friend would be better served by not drinking. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Drink enough water daily so that your urine is mostly colorless.

Not necessarily: It means the endoscopist saw some reddish coloration of the lining of the distal stomach. This may or may not be significant. The finding can indicate gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining) due to an infectious or other process. But the observation of "erythema" is subjective (the area may seem normal to another MD) and a biopsy of the area may be normal. Gastritis is a histologic diagnosis ...Read more
