Hello.

Hello. I can't diagnose your problem. Peptobismal can turn your stool very dark or black. On the other hand, if stool is black and sticky with a bad odor; this could be gastrointestinal bleeding. Your doctor can perform a simple test to determine if the dark stools are due to blood and/ or peptobismal. If there is blood in the stool, the cause would be to be worked up.

If there are any dramatic changes in your pain quality, severity or development of new associated symptoms (i.e. Nausea, vomiting, difficulty swallowing, painful swallowing, blood in stools, black stools, etc) then you should have your exam sooner. Otherwise its probably ok to wait assuming you were evaluated by a health professional already.

Ulcers

Bright red blood in the stool is from hemorrhoids. Black stool is digested blood from stomach ulcers. These can be treated with Prilosec and suppositories. Get tested for H.pylori. You're not too far gone to recover, but this is going to take some work. Hopefully, your FP can discover the cause of your bleeding (stress?), diagnose and treat properly, so that you can get to feeling better soon!

Many possibilities

You need a full detailed evaluation by a GI doctor. Make a detailed list of symptoms, the times they occur and their relationships with anything else or with each other and take it with you to your appointment. You should also make a list of all places you have been and foods you have eaten. Good luck,

If you are having diarrhea, it is not constipation. Those are total opposite. If the pain is continuing and having tenderness, you should see your doctor to make sure you don't have infection or worse other serious problems.

You may be having stomach pain from coughing. Not being able to poop goes against stomach flu usually as it normal presents with diarrhea. Chances are your symptoms are not part of the same picture as they don't fit a single presentation.

?Virus

Your symptoms sound viral, and should get better in the course of time. Increase clear liquids for 18-24 hours, rest and then slowly start to eat a BRAT (Bananas/Rice/applesauce/toast) diet and increase it as tolerated to normal. If symptoms persist however, you get worsening pain, a fever, colored mucus production, etc. than see a Dr. as you may have a bacterial infection. Good luck
