Constipation and stomach pain. Blood and stool samples are good. What can cause this ?

Constipation + pain: Medically define "constipation" in part as stool infrequency (less than one bowel movement every 3-4 days). Symptoms as described may result from: metabolic problems (diabetes, hormone imbalance), ibs, pseudo-obstruction/recurrent ileus, partial obstruction (extrinsic or instrinsic), non-gi issues. Bleeding, weight loss, tenderness, acute but persistent changes in bowels signals greatest concern. ...Read more

I was told that I have atelectasis in both lungs. I also have stomach pain, diarrhea and blood in stools be related. Could one cause the other?

No: Atelectasis is a benign collapse of segments of your lungs that can be resolved with deep breathing and use of an incentive spirometer.. It would not be associated in any way with the intestinal symptoms you are experiencing. Ayour GI symptoms sound like colitis or a colonic infection. You should see your doctor and have blood and stool studies to find the cause. ...Read more

Ulcers: Bright red blood in the stool is from hemorrhoids. Black stool is digested blood from stomach ulcers. These can be treated with Prilosec and suppositories. Get tested for h.Pylori. You're not too far gone to recover, but this is going to take some work. Hopefully, your fp can discover the cause of your bleeding (alcohol?), diagnose and treat properly, so that you can get to feeling better soon! ...Read more

Fissure, hemorrhoid: At your age this sounds like an anal fissure which is a tear of the lining of the outlet. Hemorrhoids rarely cause real pain unless one gets a blood clot which would be a hard lump at outlet and hurt all the time not just with BM. Sit in warm water, increase fluid intake and take fiber/stool softener and should improve within next several days. ...Read more
