Stomach Pain After Ct Scan
CT Scan benefit outweigh the risk? Im 23 with 3 CT scans already. Doctors concerned about chronic upper left abdomen pain radiating to back.
Depends: It depends on what your dr is concerned about. CT scans do provide significant radiation exposure. Some causes of left upper abdominal pain can e assessed by ultrasound or endoscopy, depending on your other symptoms and risks. If however, your doctor can provide good reason why CT scan is necessary, then it is probably worth doing. You can always seek a second opinion. ...Read more
Ct uses xrays taken an 360 degrees combined with a computer to see"inside" the body. The table moves as the xray tube and detectors spin around the patient 10 times a second or more! the image shows excellent soft tissue detail, enhanced with injection of intravenous contrast or oral contrast. This way the body is shown in slices, in any plane, usually axially, but ...Read more
Stomach pain in diff areas over a yr. Mainly uper left but occ in different spots. Ct scan was normal on everything. What cud it be?
Have severe lower stomach pain diarrhia every time I eat had CT scan and blood work all normal been 3 weeks no change?
Lactose intolerance?: It is good that you had a normal CT scan and bloodwork as that can exclude many anatomical issues including appendicitis, colitis, infection or tumor. Are there certain foods that make this worse? Do you see a relationship to dairy products? What about wheat products? Should consider lactose intolerance or possibly celiac disease. I would consult with GI specialist at this point ...Read more

Stomach pain right side across from naval. Have had off & on since 10/12 many tests (us & ct's) everything looks ok. Hurting again, why?
Many causes: Could be muscular if you work out or have injured yourself. Could be related to what you eat. Could be related to emotional upset. Try keeping a food and symptom diary (including times of day). That may provide information to help you and a physician or nutritionist or counsellor to determine a pattern. Holistic or functional medicine doctor, visceral manipulation therapist may be helpful. ...Read more
What could cause a sudden drop in B12 levels in 5 months600 to 371. Extreme stomach pain 20Weightloss , MRI ct colonoscopy can't find cause. What else?
Functional loss: The tests you undertook look for anatomical problems that would correlate with B12 deficiency. But unless you've had surgery recently, the chances of an anatomical problem are remote. More likely you have a functional loss of B12. Either your diet has changed or you have developed problems with B12 absorption like achlorhydria or intrinsic factor (IF) deficiency which are found by biochemical test ...Read more

What can cause a month-long fever? Started intermittent but now 99.5-100+ daily. Stomach pain, GI issues; ct+egd show nothing major. Neck glands sore sometimes. 25f, sober/smoke-free more than 1 yr.
Many things: I would strongly suggest further evaluation. Persistent low grade fevers aren't normal. Could be something simple like epstein barr infection which causes mono. Or some other infxn. More extreme concern would be more serious infection or blood disorder. As a women worth your symptoms a gynecologic exam is also needed. Most of the concerns can be evaluated with simple blood test or imaging. ...Read more
My abdominal CT scan says “ovoid hypodense estructure in retroperitoneum” 3.6x 4x 3.5 cm, Dr says it’s probably benign but I’m concerned. Any help?
Difficult: to venture a guess without additional info or viewing the images. If it is a cyst it may be innocuous. If it is a solid mass it might require further work up. ...Read more
Sometimes. : It depends on many factors, the size of the cancer, the organ it involves, technical factors with the study, etc. There are many variables. Remember each cancer starts as a single cell, so we can never completely exclude the diagnosis even when a ct is completely normal. Pet/ct can show cancers that are virtually impossible to see on ct, even with contrast. ...Read more
No: Iv contrast is often not used when the ct is for the purpose of looking for renal stones and in people with a history of contrast allergy or renal disease. It is often helpful in assessing persons with nonspecific abdominal symptoms as it will better show areas of inflammation, infection, and tumor. ...Read more
Hollow organ: Because the stomach is a hollow organ, if it is not full of food sometimes it will not show up on a CT scan or other imaging test. If a doctor is specifically wanting to look at the stomach on CT scan they can order the CT with oral contrast. Then you drink some contrast material and the stomach will show up. ...Read more

Not usually one: Radiation dose from ct is about 100 times chest x-ray. However the exact number of scans to induce cancer is not precisely known. If ct is necessary for diagnosis it is very accurate tool. Most institutions have reduced amount of exposure in recent years. If same diagnosis can be made with mr or ultrasound, non ionizing radiation, they should be chosen.Certain medical problems ct is necessary. ...Read more

Would advanced colon cancer show up on a CT scan of my abdomen ? Reg CT scan not virtual colonoscopy.
Imaging/biopsy: The imaging modality of ct scan could show findings that would be concerning for cancer, mass around your colon, enlarged lymph nodes in the same area. However, the diagnosis is made at biopsy, a piece of the mass under the microscope of a pathologist. Often the ct scan leads to the biopsy. Good luck, it is important to get the evaluation completed. ...Read more
