Stomach Pain (Overview)

Most people will describe pain in any part of abdomen as stomach pain, it is what many patients say but in medical terms it is pain in the stomach which is located in middle of upper abdomen, so real stomach pain is the pain localised in anatomic stomach.

Not usually unless..: You are correct..Your healthy stomach has powerfull acid and thus adding sour foods here and there is not a big deal. But, if you have problems such as ulcers, gastritis etc..Which may be from hypersecretion of acid (more than usual) to start with, then adding acidic foods (sour) may/more likely cause stomach upset/trouble for you. There : There are multiple causes of stomach pain. Lower left quadrant pain can be from diverticulitis (infection in intestines), ovarian cysts (if you are female) and even urinary tract infection (uti). You should start with a visit to your primary care provider for a complete work up of your abdominal pain. In the meantime consider possible food allergies and even a condition called lactose intolerance(inability to digest dairy). You can try a one week trial of no dairy and monitor for effect. Maybe not...: As suggested in the prior answer, Erythromycin is a pro-motility drug that alters stomach contractions. Probiotics, despite their benefits in general, will likely not help your particular problem since they may be inhibited by your taking erythromycin. Probiotics best utility is in supporting & supplementing the colonic flora. ...Read more
