Stomach Growling On The Ketogenic Diet
I've been following a Ketogenic diet with intermittent fasting for 3 months, 15kgs lost so far. Now experiencing pain in stomach and nausea for a number of hours after eating. General digestive discomfort. Any advice?
Refers to all the physical matter humans (like all living creatures) must take in on a recurring basis; only partially for energy. Like all life on planet humans are open systems which keep tearing down their structure & require intake of atoms/molecules from which to rebuild their structure. Intestinal lining cells replaced ~every 3 days. CaPO4 in bones ~every 6 years, ...Read more
I am on the Ketogenic diet My stool recently has been green color lately. I've also been feeling a slight discomfort on my lower right side abdomen slightly behind my lower ribs. No pain at all. When I have carbs my poop looks normal brown.
Its in the Low GI: This means you concentrate on low glycemic index foods. Foods w a GI less than 55.This allows you to stay in a ketogenic state. U don't sacrifice an entire days food choices so that every item is below 55.U look at an overall meal or a days meal plan and see if the average GI of all items taken as a whole is below 55.Make smart choices and above all else exercise & drink 64 oz's of h2o/day. ...Read more
Let's talk: If your only finding on chemical profile is a consistently high indirect bilirubin and you feel fine, you almost certainly have gilbert's and this is a non-problem that you should not try to address. If consistently high indirect, dubin-johnson is likely, same advice. If you have high bilirubin from an identified or unidentified illness, get with your physician before you try this diet. ...Read more
Diet vs surgery: The ketogenic diet and surgery are two approaches to reduce or control seizures. Surgery is directed at localized areas of brain from which seizures are triggered. The ketogenic diet is most often used for medication resistent seizures that are generalized forms of epilepsy or seizure syndromes. They are not usuallly interchangeable. ...Read more
How many carbs should I eat daily to get into ketosis. I'm interested in a ketogenic diet. I'm not diabetic.
Depends on factors: Ketosis, when the body shifts from glucose 2 ketones as n energy source, depends on many factors like how much glc "reserve" was built up in the liver, & ur activities (energy in vs. Energy out). A ketogenic diet, where 10-15% of cal r from carbs, takes anywhere from 3-14 days to deplete glucose stores. Genetic factors also play a role. Ketogenic diets r medically controversial except in epilepsy. ...Read more
Is it advisible for a patient taking Risperidone to go on a Ketogenic Diet for its "mental clarity and energy" benefits?
I started the ketogenic diet 2 weeks ago and am noticing a non-itchy, on bumpy rash growing on my back and chest are. They are not bumpy.
See below: The ketogenic diet is a high-fat, adequate-protein, low-carbohydrate diet that in medicine is used primarily to treat difficult-to-control (refractory) epilepsy in children. The diet forces the body to burn fats rather than carbohydrates. Normally, the carbohydrates contained in food are converted into glucose, which is then transported around the body and is particularly important in fuelling bra. ...Read more
Can a high-protein ketogenic diet cause slightly increased bilateral echogenicity on a kidney ultrasound?
Complicated question: With renal insufficiency, metformin can cause lactic acidosis. So on the surface, there is not a risk of ketoacidosis. But if you eliminate all carbs you may not need metformin, and an extreme ketogenic diet can cause many symptoms and metabolic derangements that I would not want to combine with metformin. Suggestion: moderation. Enough carbs to limit ketosis, and check glu daily. See your md. ...Read more
I am on a standard ketogenic diet, is this the best diet for an endomorph to lose weight? I'm also involved in hiit cardio 5x week.
The ketogenic diet is high in fat and low in carbohydrate. There is much debate as to how healthy this diet truly is. I have seen patients have temporary success with this diet only to gain weight back when they resume a normal diet.
I personally think the best way to lose weight for good is to eat smaller portion sizes and maintain an active lifestyle. ...Read more
I have been on BC for 3 years. If I start a Ketogenic diet, will it mess with the effectiveness of the birth control pill?
Hi. Would people with anemia and thalassemia experience more fatigue during diets that people without it? For example a ketogenic diet?
Address issues: If you have thalassemia minor and a very mild anemia as a result, it is a non-problem unless you marry someone else with it. If you have a second cause of significant anemia, it needs to be addressed. Unless the ketogenic diet is prescribed for epilepsy, please reconsider. These fad diets are likely to make you feel unwell and are less effective than developing a fitness habit. ...Read more
Will following a ketogenic diet while breastfeeding adversely affect my 8 month old daughter? She is a good eater and eats a variety of solids.
Constant ketosis: In light of the fact that your infant "is a good eater and eats a variety of solids", breast feeding her while on the ketogenic diet probably will not harm the baby. However, it may have detrimental effects on your health and energy levels. Our body needs carbs to perform normal day functions. Importance of a well balanced diet cannot be overemphasized. ...Read more
Will a ketogenic diet help as a complementary or alternative cure for advanced gastric cancer? That it could starve cancer, reverting to ketone-use?

Is metformin dangerous with diet-induced (not diabetes-induced)ketosis? Like would a ketogenic diet+metf cause metabolic acidosis? (2000mgmet a day btw)
Its possible: I have many patients on metformin and in ketosis and its sometimes fine but you must watch out for hypoglycemia. For example if on a regular diet you require metformin but then then go into ketosis (which will severely reduce your' blood sugar) if you keep taking the same dose of metformin you could become hypoglycemic and this needs to be monitored by your' doctor. ...Read more
First...: You should be high wiasted and carry weight on the middle for optimal results. Initially keep carb intake below 40g per day. You should become ketogenic. You will notice once weight loss occurs, your lipids will improve almost immediately! It is not a diet: it is a lifestyle! It prevents metabolic syndrome or corrects it, if strictly adhered to. ...Read more
Not dangerous: People get 'ketosis' mixed up with 'keto-acidosis'. Ketosis is the process of burning fat for energy instead of sugar or muscle. This is definitely a GOOD thing for type 2 diabetics. Keto-acidosis is a very dangerous condition that occurs in type 1 diabetics when they are not taking in enough insulin. I have had MANY diabetic 2 patients do with with ketogenic eating plans (sensible) ...Read more
Kidney Quandary: Unfortunately, the answer is no. One of the problems in chronic kidney disease is the inability to handle metabolic stress in the system. If you preferentially burn fat at the cost of little or no carbohydrate intake, you create ketones as a by-product of metabolism. This can cause significant stress on the liver and kidneys and it won't turn around CKD but may in fact make it worse. ...Read more

Count calories: When food is consumed it has a certain caloric (heat, energy) content. They are really only three ways that that caloric content can leave the body. 1. Malabsorption (i.e. You don't consume it in the first place, e.g. Diarrhea). 2. Burned off as heat. 3. Burned off as movement. Anything left over is stored as fat. Overthinking diets and body type clouds main concern: reducing caloric intake. ...Read more
