Stomach Flu With Diarrhea
Heartburn after having stomach flu, no vomiting only diarrhea, fever and aches. Tums (calcium carbonate) and organic vinager don't help. What would help the heartburn?
Try an H2 blocker: Some people develop heartburn after a stomach flu even without vomiting, because the stomach flu may have caused gastroesophageal reflux, and irritation to the esophagus. I suggest try famotidine 20mg twice a day or ranitidine 150mg twice a day, both are over the counter. In addition, avoid alcohol, caffeine, cigarettes, large meals, and fatty meals. Also, Gaviscon tabs are a wonderful antacid. ...Read more

Woke up at 4am with nausea and three diarrheas by 5 pm my stomach started growling. Did I have the stomach flu or was it something else.

I have been having diarreah for two days now (with fever at night). I believe it is a stomach flu. Is there anything I can do?
Diarrhea: If you haven't been backpacking, drank contaminated water, been to mexico or overseas, the most common would be the stomach flu. Plenty of clear liquids (alcohol not included), b.R.A.T. Diet (bananas, rice, apples, toast) are the first line of care. Avoid fat and protein. If it lasts 2 days, you start vomiting, or it's getting worse despite the above, you may need an iv. ...Read more
My 10 month old baby has stomach flu how long or days should the diahrrea last and all the sympthoms? She's in playful but don't eat 2 too much formula
(viral) usually last 24-48 hours. Keep baby hydrated with sips of pedialyte/formula/
watered down juice. Since she's playful, symptoms should rapidly subside. Bacterial gastroenteritis' symptoms may be more severe & last longer so that medical intervention may be needed to prevent dehydration. Braty diet (banana, rice, applesauce, toast, yogurt) may help, too. ...Read more

If not beter after 7 days, see your dr. For an evaluation to be safe. Good luck. ...Read more

I'm having waves of stomach cramping. Is this stomach flu? It's been like this for a few days. No vomiting or diarreah.
No: If there is no vomiting or diarrhea I would not consider it to be the stomach flu. However, it does seem that your stomach is upset about something, whether it be excess acid or some kind of bug that's just not making you throw up or have diarrhea. If it continues a few more days I would recommend you get the advice and exam from your doctor. Best wishes. ...Read more
Hi my 12 year old has the stomach flu for a week now and is okay but still has diarrhoea and she still has stomach pain and can't eat any solutions?
Beware of dehydratio: Initially, the most important thing is to avoid dehydration. Administer oral rehydration fluids, then progress to bland diet If no improvement, seek medical attention. ...Read more
I breastfeed my 9 month old and I have severe diarreha and nausea, what can I take to get rid of this stomach flu?
Ideally - nothing: Usually acute gastroenteritis presenting as diarrhea and nausea is of viral etiology and resolves by itself over 48-72 hrs. Antibiotics do not help- you should however maintain hydration, especially as you are breast feeding- you can eat bananas, soft rice- these are binding. Yogurt is also good- avoid fruit juices in diarrhea as the high sugar content can make the diarrhea worse. ...Read more
My wife and kids have been throwing up and have diarreha off and on for the past 24-36 hours. Thinking they have some sort of stomach flu/ virus. Is there anything they can take or do? And, what can I take to ensure I don't get it? Thanks.
Sounds like it: You're likely correct. For a stomach virus, it's important to maintain hydration (water, sports drinks) and eat a very bland diet as tolerated. Look up the "BRAT" diet. Certainly avoid dairy. As long as there's no fever, it's ok to use loperamide (Imodium) to suppress symptoms. Wash hands frequently and don't share food/glasses etc. See a doc if dehydration or 3 days without improvement. ...Read more

Was taking Dicyclomine and Omeprazole for stomach pain. Stopped taking, and later the same night have stomach flu/diahrea. Coincidence or from meds?
Hard to tell: The doctor who prescribed these drugs needs to diagnose you first before he treats you. Dicyclomine is an antispasmodic, and omeprazole reduces the concentration of stomach acid. Omeprazole can have diarrhea as an adverse effect, but I don't think this is the culprit. How do you know you have "stomach flu? " I need more information to diagnose you properly before treating you. ...Read more

Not at first: When you first get "a stomach flu bug", your gut may protest it by trying to shut down altogether. In this stage you feel the nausea and vomiting, because stuff just does not want to go through. It's usually later that the body tries to "wash out the virus" by dumping more fluids in the gut to try and wash out the virus - and then boom, diarrhea. So early on you may not poop at all. ...Read more
