My wife just discovered blood in her urine that's all that I know at this time. She said that she has pain in her abdominal area too she has blood in urine too.

You: You know, just this second my sister-in-law called me to say she has blood in her urine and abdominal pain! are you my brother-in-law? :)

the two most common causes of blood in the urine are a kidney stone and a urinary tract infection. There are other causes, like bladder tumors and such, but if this is sudden and her pain seems to radiate from her back or lower abdomen to her groin, she may have a stone.

If you have a urologist, call him/her. Otherwise, I would call her primary physician. If she has a stone, her pain may blossom over the night, and you may have to bring her to the er, just to manage the pain.

Meanwhile, she should stay hydrated as much as possible.

I've added the tag "urology" as this question is best answered by a urologist.

Good luck! ...Read more

What's wrong with me? I have microscopic blood in my urine. I have stomach aches and cramps randomly and after I eat.

Hello.: Hello. First off, I cannot tell you the reason that you have microscopic blood in your urine. When the blood in urine can only be seen with a microscope that is called microscopic hematuria. There can be many causes, some of which are serious and others which will resolve with no treatment. I do not know if you are a woman or a man. Women develop urinary tract infections more often than men so that are more likely to get hematuria. Hematuria can be the result of infections, inflammation or injury to the bladder, ureters, urethra or the kidneys. Pain can be generated from kidney stones or urinary tract infections. Sometimes older people can have blood in the urine from cancer in the prostate gland or in the urinary tract. Your cramps may or may not be associated with your hematuria. Please ask the doctor who ordered your urine test, how this correlates to your symptoms. He or she is in the best position to figure this out. ...Read more

See below: Though not absolute, the presence of a normal urinalysis would usually rule out the urinary tract, and such common problems as UTIs and kidney stones, as the cause of your symptoms. I would recommend that you see your primary care physician for a more complete history and physical exam to help direct further evaluation and testing. A CT scan abd/pelvis may or may not be recommended. ...Read more
