Am Cancer Society: First of all, I am sorry to hear of your diagnosis. You can find survival statistics at the american cancer society website for a variety if cancers. Remember however that you are not a statistic. That doesn't mean you should ignore stats, just remember there is always hope. Also remember that quality is usually better than quantity in terms of life expectancy. God bless you and good luck. ...Read more

My friend says he has stage one in throat cancer and stage 3 in stomach cancer. He refuses to get treatment. What imight be life expectancy.?

Llkely 20% 5yr life.: The throat cancer may have a decent outlook, but an advanced stomach cancer where the disease has likely spread to the lymph nodes and is one step away from distant metastases has about a 20% 5 year survival at best. This is if the tumor is able to be resected. It is his choice, but it might be good for him to see his doctor to at least find out what can be done to make him comfortable. ...Read more

Stage 4?Stomach cancer. Is chemotherapy advisable with 33 kgs weight, age 66, height5.3 please advise

Stomach cancer: Chemotherapy is the mainstay therapy for stage IV stomach cancer. Other option will be only palliative care/hospice if one does not want to get active therapy. Whether one is a good candidate or not for chemo will depend on how good is the overall situation- can the person take care oneself? How much assistant she/he needs for daily activity etc? Discuss further with the oncologist re-tx options. ...Read more

Can there be anything that can be done for my dad who has stage 4 stomach cancer?

Can there be anything that can be done for my dad who has stage 4 stomach cancer?

Yes: If his cancer is stage IV it is considered metastatic and treatment is aimed at management rather than cure. If there is an area of painful involvement then radiation therapy is a good treatment option for this local area. The mainstay of treatment for patients with metastatic disease, though, is chemotherapy or systemic therapy of some kind. His overall ability to tolerate treatment will matter. ...Read more

What is the survival rate of someone with stage 4 stomach cancer that spread to multiple lymph nodes and organs surrounding the stomach?

What is the survival rate of someone with stage 4 stomach cancer that spread to multiple lymph nodes and organs surrounding the stomach?

Unknown: This is an impossible question to answer for an individual. Clearly, it is less for someone with the above findings than it is for someone who doesn't have all of the above. When we look at 5-yr survival rates for a given cancer, that is the average survival of thousands of people with the disease. Every individual has other factors to consider. Even then, prediction is faulty. ...Read more
