Doctor insights on:
Foot drop: Footdrop can be a complication of prolonged positioning in stirrups. The cause is prolonged pressure on a nerve in the foot. The body has a tremendous capacity to heal and will generally recover over about 6 months. The best thing you can do is foot exercises (see a physical therapist for proper instruction). After about 6 months, you are not likely to get much more healing. ...Read more
My buttocks hurt only when I am sleeping. I was told it was from my leggs in the stirrups ftom my hysterectomy?
Two likely causes: Positioning of your legs could have resulted in nerve compression (especially the common peroneals) pressure of the baby's body during passage thru the birth can could have compressed the sacral plexus, a large group of nerves to each leg. You need the brace!:
You still need the brace. It is not all healed if it still hurts. First, get an MRI to rule out a longitudinal tear of the posterior tibial tendon. This is common in overweight patients and can be treated conservatively or surgically. Try a richie brace.

Peroneal tendon subluxation- w/ heel to toe walk, pivot, down stairs, up ramps. Tried stirrup brace but increased sublux. Other conservative options?
I had an ankle sprain two months ago. Now I am having pain in p tibial. I have been wearing inflatable stirrup ankle brace for five weeks. The doctor said I should continue wearing itbut the physio said ditch. Who's right?
Depends: Does the brace relieve symptoms? The brace is not a substitute for rehab. Typically, I utilize more functional braces that are often smaller and utilize velcro or laces. The stirrup splint can be too restrictive once in the final recovery stages. It's not a very functional brace during athletic participation either. If you mean posterior tib tendonitis, there are braces made specifically for this. ...Read more
