Yes: the itching can continue for weeks after treatment. Try a calamine lotion, over the counter antihistamines such as Zyrtec or Benadryl (diphenhydramine). Also a topical hydrocortisone cream can be helpful for itching. Remember to repeat the treatment in about 2 weeks and treat your family members as well. ...Read more

See a dermatologist: Confirm the diagnosis. Did you use permethrin? Did you use it correctly? All contacts treated? How long ago? Itch from scabies is primarily due to allergy to mites embedded in skin. The allergy is responsible for continued itch after the mites are killed by treatment. Usually there is less itch after 1-2 weeks, but it may take several weeks to gradually abate. You may need topical steroid for ecze. ...Read more

Bites: Keep using the treatment as stated by your doctor, also you should use hot, soapy water to wash all clothing, towels and bedding you used. Dry with high heat. Dry-clean items you can't wash at home. Consider placing items you can't wash in a sealed plastic bag and leaving it in your garage, for a couple of weeks, this will starve the mites. Treated for scabies 30 hrs ago with po Ivermectin. I sanitized EVERYTHING. Just broke out w/ new itchy red bumps. Does this mean treatment failed?

Probably not but: Even if the mites are killed, they have left some droppings behind in the skin areas where they had visited.
