Not surprising: Decadron (dexamethasone) is a steroid. If it is stopped too quickly then side effects like joint pain and muscle aches may occur. Also - Decadron (dexamethasone) helps reduce these symptoms so if the dose is lowered beyond a certain point you can have the original symptoms return. ...Read more

Other arthritis?: You are describing symptoms of arthritis, and not all arthritis is rheumatoid arthritis, so normal blood tests for RA don't exclude other types of arthritis. You are a little young for osteoarthritis. You might have an unusual version of lyme disease, or another type of immune-mediated arthritis. A couple of thought : Your symptoms suggest a couple things. Inflammatory . Our thoughts include such diagnoses as arthritis, myositis are a couple thoughts. When you see a rheumatologist we will look for a variety of inflammatory causes. You do not describe swelling so i think we also have to look at noninflammatory musculoskeletal problems.
