I have back, side, and abdomen pain believed to be from a possible lipoma on the rib we did an intercostal injection of steroid if 0 change then what?

Thoracic ESI?: This is what I would do for a patient with this:

consider thoracic radiculopathy. If the MRI of t-spine looks fine, then the lipoma can be surgically removed (possibly). If the MRI correlates with a "pinched nerve", then do a thoracic epidural steroid injection. ...Read more

My professor said that the addition of fluorine renders fluorinated steroids unable to be broken down by the liver. T or f?

My professor said that the addition of fluorine renders fluorinated steroids unable to be broken down by the liver. T or f?

Variable.: Fluorination of some molecules, including steroids, can block metabolism by liver enzymes in some cases, depending on the molecule, and where the fluorine atom is attached on that molecule. But most fluorinated steroids are applied topically; unless they are grossly over-used, not enough of the drug is absorbed into the bloodstream to make this a relevant issue in the real world. ...Read more

See liver specialist: Agree with dr. Abe; sounds like autoimmune hepatitis. Meds may be able to be adjusted. On 6mp (steroid sparing), Budesonide (steroid with fewer systemic effects)? Watching diet, weight as best you can> avoiding alcohol?

Side effects: Epidural steroid injections are very safe procedures but there are some common side effects that many patients experience. Steroid medications may cause change in mood as well as sleep disturbance, which is probably what you mean by "wired." over time, these symptoms should improve. ...Read more

Losing weight. On steroid for asthma. Hurt myself lifting boxes. Mild mid-abdomen rt side pain on exam. Dr said steroid will help it too. What's it?

Muscle strain: The usual tx for a muscle strain (oral meds) is a non-steroidal anti inflammatory drug (nsaid). Prednisone is a steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. This would be the logic of it working in your injury. Of course wet warm soaks, etc wouldn't be out of the question either. ...Read more

So I got a hida scan my gallbladder isn't functioning recommended surgery my question is would this cause my blood work to show elevated liver emzymes?

HIDA Scan: If your HIDA scan showed poor gallbladder emptying, that doesn't necessarily mean you will have abnormal liver function tests. Your gallbladder isn't contracting very well, causing distention and pain. This doesn't effect bile flow from your liver. If there is associated inflammation (diagnosed by ultrasound), then there may be a slight elevation of some of your liver function tests. ...Read more
