Sternum Pain After Car Accident
I was in a car accident over a year ago and hurt my sternum. My sternum still hurts past couple weeks worse than usually. When will pain stop.
See answer: Pain form a year ago, should have resolved at this point. At times, areas of previous injury can be exacerbated if that area gets re-injured or affected again by something. At times, injuries predispose you to always having some chance of pain that crops up in the area throughout your life. Check with your dr. As they know your case and may be able to provide some relief. Best wishes.
Motor vehicle accident (MVA) is an event that is a common cause of injury, disability, and death, because of the high speed of impact and the large mass of the vehicles. An MVA can be automobile vs. Automobile, auto vs. Motorcycle, motorcycle vs. Motorcycle, motor vehicle vs. Bicyclist/pedestrian, or motor vehicle vs. ...Read more
I have several spine chips from a car accident. I am in a lot of pain. Will this last for ever. Should I be worried had a car accident. Broke 3 ribs, my speen, my sternum, and several bone chips on my spine.....Is this serious
Sounds Serious: You really need to get expert medical attention. How long pain lasts depends upon how serious the injury is and how long it will take to heal. You really need to get this checked out thoroughly. If for no other reason than to manage your pain effectively.See 1 more doctor answer
I have mitral valve regurgitation. Also a car accident where my sternum fractured and took the full trauma. Is a transthoratic test needed? Worried..
Yes!: Chest pain after a car accident could represent skeletal injury (rib fractures, sternal fracture) or cardiac injury (blunt cardiac injury, myocardial ischemia). If you are having other symptoms, see your nearest emergency department. If this is isolated to just your chest and its reproducible with pushing on your sternum (i.e., breast bone), it's likely skeletal and can be managed with meds.
I do moderate excercise and was in a recent car accident since then I've had sharp stingy pain in my upper back and now left side chest and neck?
Pain after MVA: Presumably, you had xrays after trauma. If not, I would suggest you do. In absence of significant injury on xray, I would suspect whiplash to explain neck/upper back symptoms. Seat belt injury may have caused ac sprain. If you're tender where the collarbone meets the shoulder, voilå. Generally, treatment involves nsaid's, ice/heat, salonpas hot patches, and mckenzie pt if not improving (doc's rx).
I was in a car accident about a month ago. When the impact hit my seat belt cut into my chest. I'm still having chest pain when I move. Is this normal?
See doc: Sounds likely expected- you can cause various intercostal muscle tares, rib "bruising", fractures etc some of which may not readily show up on radiologic studies. As it is primarily with movement it is most likely musculoskeletal in origin, an so will improve with time and anti inflammatory meds like motrin, but you should see your doc to be safe. There are always oddities that doc may need to see.See 1 more doctor answer
Most certainly: Depending on the speed of the crash and from what direction you were hit, the restrictive mechanism of the seatbelt has the potential to cause damage to the chest wall as well as other structures within the chest. A thorough history and physical examination by your primary care provider or an emergency room physician would be warranted if you are having pain or shortness of breath.
See a physician: Most neck injuries in automobile accidents are a result of sudden deceleration of the vehicle resulting in what is commonly referred to as "whiplash"- at minimum, this represents a sprain or strain but could be more serious (i.e. A herniated disc or fracture). Your chest may be sore due to deceleration against the seat belt restraint which can bruise the chest wall or possibly fracture a rib.
Ouch: This is variable - could be several days for some or several weeks for others. It depends on the force and your body's muscle mass/tone. The bigger issue is if you have trouble breathing or sharp chest pains, this could indicate internal injury. If so, would talk to your doc about getting a chest x-ray tomorrow am or go to an er. Otherwise, anti inflammatories like Ibuprofen will help muscle pain.See 1 more doctor answer
Airbag hit my sisters chest (breasts) in a car accident a few days ago. She didn't tell the drs because it wasn't bad but they're covered in red bruises?
Not necessarily: The effects of esophageal rupture or injury may be noticed on plain films as widening of mediastinum and fluid in pleural space. Usually consideration of symptoms chest pain, chills, fever, general discomfort and shortness of breath. Usually inflammation associated with bacterial infection requiring antibiotic therapy. Supplemental testing includes esophagogram and CT exam.
I was in a car accident. The seat belt made an indention in my chest, leaving the left side numb with no nipple sensation. Will I get feeling again?
Most likely: You will get the feeling back. Your nerves got compressed by the seat belt, which is not uncommon. Without the seat belt, you could have suffered worse injuries. Heat and cold applications to the affected area may help, but time will heal it and you should not worry.
I got into a car accident when I was 12 and only had minor bruising on my chest, so now whenever I run, my chest tightens and it's hard to breathe?
See a doctor: Breathing problems and chest pain can be caused by many reasons. Some are simple and of no importance but some can need immediate attention. I suggest that you see a doctor right away.
I came out of hospital a month ago from a car accident, I had bruised and crushed and lungs and a bruised chest, im 18, fairly healthy, can I drink?
In moderation: It should be fine to have some alcoholic beverages, as long as it is in moderation. Don't go overboard. Hope this helps!

Get checked: MVA related injuries are very common from seat belts, airbags, and from the steering wheel. Potentially, ribs, clavicle, cervical spine and the kidney could be injured. Get checked, or rechecked.See 1 more doctor answer
