Not a Heart Attack?: Nate,

Hopefully this is not a heart attack. If you think it might be, then get to the hospital.

If you are sure that it is not. Continue stretching, take an anti inflammation medication like Aspirin or motrin, given the location of the pain, I would suggest aspirin. You could try warm or cold compacts as well. Physical therapy could be a solution as well. Try a chiropractor. ...Read more

For the last two days I have experienced a pain in the mid-chest area, below the sternum. This pain is constant, however, whenever I eat or drink something the pain becomes unbearable-pain to where I almost shout out in pain. I am a 50-yr-old female, and

Since: Since the cause of sternal and chest pain can be challenging to even the most experienced of doctors, your symptoms should be evaluated immediately. Even though you are having vomiting and pain leading one to believe it is stomach related, a medical professional must ensure that this is not heart related such as a heart attack or blood clot.

If it is determined that the pain is not cardiovascuar related, further evaluation for gastritis, esophagitis, esophageal spasms, gall bladder disease, pancreatitis, and pneumonia would typically be the next step. This is not a time to guess at where your symptoms are coming from, but a time for experienced medical attention.
