Tetanus safe: If your last tetanus shot was less than 7 years ago, it is not necessary to get another booster now. Your management with washing, etc., was appropriate but it is still possible to get an infection from bacteria on the skin whenever there is a cut or puncture. Get an evaluation if the site looks red or becomes more painful. ...Read more

Any wound a problem: Tetanus spores from the dirt can get into any break in your skin and potentially germinate. Over time the growing germs may elaborate the tetanus toxin and give you tetanus. I stepped on a rusty nail last tetanus shot was 3-4 years ago should I worry. Should I be worried?
Not about tetanus: Your tetanus coverage should be fine. There are many other germs I would worry more about and an infection into the complex structures of the foot can be scary. Rusty nail: How much later? You have up to 3 days to get a tetanus vaccination if it was more than 5 years since your last one. For now take a non-prescription pain medication. Puncture wounds like this, especially on the sole of the foot, are typically not sutured, so a short delay (12 hours) is not too bad. The doctor you see may prescribe a few days of an antibiotic to lessen the chance of infection. ...Read more

A question here??

Wash it carefully:
Then if your TETANUS (Actualy DT or ADULT DPT) is not up to date you should get a booster!
Your local Walk In unit (eg: many Pharmacies) can provide this!
You do not have to see an M.D,

I stepped on a rusty nail today that punctured my foot the puncture site is throbbing. Do I need to go to doctor? My last tetnus shot was in 2008?
Close Observation: That nail went through many layers of tissue and each layer heals at a different rate. Skin heals quickly, the deep tough connective tissues takes a lot longer. Minimize strenuous activity for at least a week and progress slowly. There is no way to prevent infection so forget antibiotics. Observe and get help for fevers, increasing redness/drainage/pain. Your tetanus is ok for 5 more years. ...Read more
