Step Throat Symtoms
Mild cold symptoms (congested, tired, cough) but no sore throat. Walk-in clinic nurse diagnosed strep after quick test. Should I get 2nd opinion?
Just get treated: Strep infections can be mild. The test isn't perfect and could be wrong. Or you might be colonized (i.e. carrying strep) without symptoms, and it has nothing to do with your cold. However, it's best to be treated with an antibiotic if the clinic recommended it. Better safe than sorry! ...Read more

Sore throat: You didn't mention taking antibiotics to treat your Strep throat but most infectious sore throats are caused by viruses which won't respond to antibiotics. Allergies, bad heartburn & mouth breathing are common causes of non-infectious sore throats. See your Family Doc for re-evaluation & appropriate treatment. ...Read more
Sore throat, headache, neck pain, malaise, & fatigue x15 days. Neg. strep test, no fever. Taking amoxicillin w/no help. Possible causes?
Needs work-up: For symptoms that are ongoing like that- I think of several possibilities. One would be mono- and that's an easy one (mono-spot test). Not sure if you have risk factors for HIV but I would test you for that too. Other viruses such as enterovirus or adenovirus could cause these symptoms, but usually not this long. REST may help you. Would check back with doc prescribing Amoxicillin-probably stop it ...Read more

GI problem seem cause my sore throat, throat clearing, feeling of lump in throat, difficulty breathing & swallow. Can it cause severe chest pain too?
Yes, reflux can: Cause significant chest pain. In fact that is the origin of the term heartburn. On the other hand, not all chest pain in people with GERD is GI in origin. Is strep throat a symptom of HIV? M-M contact. No penetration. Possible saliva contact with anus. 6 days later, sore throat. Tested + for strep throat
Test for HIV: Strep throat is not a sign of HIV, but acute HIV infection can also announce itself as a bad sore throat from which strep may grow. It sounds like your contact was safe, it's too early to be sick from HIV from the guy, and as a grown man you should test for HIV yearly. Many, perhaps most, men do a little safe exploring with a friend at some time. I hope you'll value what happened, and love safely. ...Read more
