How do they remove a stent placed after kidney stone removal surgery?

How do they remove a stent placed after kidney stone removal surgery?

Two ways: If the stent is left with a long "string" if intended to be short term, this can be grasped and pulled out easily. If there is no visible string, an office procedure to retrieve it with a flexible fiberoptic scope (cystoscopy) is a rapid and relatively painless method to remove the stent.

I had Kidney stone surgery a month ago and had the stent out 7 days. I now have bilateral stones although all stones were removed. Is this possible?

Recurrence: Please contact your treating physician immediately. Although this is a fast recurrence, the important thing to do is ensure complete treatment. A nephrologist needs to identify the type of stones for you. Underlying disease states causing recurrent stones need to be tested for, and a 24 hour urine collection will be performed. Seek treatment at a tertiary academic medical center if possible.

Pain after stint removal for kidney stone surgery?

Pain after stint removal for kidney stone surgery?

Can be normal: After removing a stent following ureteroscopy, it may feel like a "stone" is still there. This usually resolves within 48 hours and is a result of swelling in the "kidney tube". Use pain relievers as prescribed and it should improve with time. If it doesn't, you are having fevers above 101 f or have nonstop nausea/vomiting, then seek medical attention.

Besides, how to prevent further stone recurrence after current stone removal needs to be addressed before procedures. Talk with doctor.

Is non-surgical kidney stone removal a lot cheaper than doing the surgery?

It depends: It depends on what you mean. If you truly mean no surgery then it is almost by definition cheaper. However, the hidden costs of observation are in the amount of lost productivity due to being unable to work or go to school, the costs of er visits to treat pain, nausea, and vomiting, and the costs of the medications which help facilitate passage and control pain.

Kidney stone removal stent with string placed String was smaller on first day now string out my penis is much longer? Is this normal do I need to worry

Kidney stone removal stent with string placed String was smaller on first day now string out my penis is much longer? Is this normal do I need to worry

Not worrying...: Hi! AlistairK, Seeing variable length of the string attached to stent is normal reflecting the variable penile length between erection or no erection. All what you have to do is just be careful not to incidentally pull it out. More doubt? Call your surgeon for clarifying your concern. (In fact, I have answer similar Q for two times.) What procedure: How much effusion? What fluids given by anesthesia? Any central lines? Concern would be bleeding in chest, unless a lot of abdominal fluid used and the ascites extended to just one chest?

Ok, . ..: For an average healthy man, it is okay to use both at the same time with Percocet for pain and Ditropan (oxybutynin) for urgency from bladder irritation/ spasm - not for incomplete bladder emptying. So, ask doc for specifics of care and decide.

I had kidney stone surgery Tuesday basket removal bladder and uretha exploration and lazer done still bleeding lightly now still clotting and in a lot?

Notify urologist: Some urinary bleeding is not unusual and is not worrisome if it's light and clots don't interfere with urination. Drinking lots of fluids is helpful in this regard. Avoid aspirin or antiinflammatories like Aleve, Advil which can increase bleeding tendency. Tylenol (acetaminophen) is ok. However if bleeding persists, becomes heavy and there are large clots, you must notify your urologist.
