What is the time frame for testing for stds and HIV after a high risk exposure and consider them conclusive?

Varies: The time frame for taking an STD test varies based on the incubation period for the infection and can differ from person to person. GC/CT is 2-6 days. Syphilis is 3-6 weeks. Hep B and HSV is 4-6 weeks. HIV - RNA is 9-11days. HIV - Antibody is 1-3 months. Testing before these time frames can possibly give you a false negative. ...Read more

Appt friday but I think I have a BV but im gettin STD check to b safe, symptoms been for about 1 month.... is there a time frame that PID can occur?

PID tricky: Pelvic inflammatory disease can be caused by a number of different infections, many of which are sexually transmitted. Depending on which infection, and the individual female body, PID can be asymptomatic (the woman does not know she has it) to life-threatening, and may become known hours to years after contracting the infection. I agree with getting an STD check and using condoms. ...Read more

See answer: Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is the most likely cause of your symptoms and is the most common vaginitis in women of childbearing age. I only had sex with one person just one time and it was five years ago. For religious reasons I hadn't had sex since then. Should I get tested for std?

Probably not: Especially if you have no symptoms of a STD, there is almost no reason to be concerned or tested. But some people only call intercourse 'sex' and think of other physical acts between people like oral, anal or even hand contact as safe. They are not totally safe, so it might be a good idea if you've done those things recently. Probably, you are fine! ...Read more

Urethral syndrome?: Some urinary tract infections in women are limited to the urethra (urine passage). Often there are few white blood cells and tests for WBC may be negative; and if a culture is done, only a small number of bacteria are found, less than with most UTIs. Or it might be some sort of non-infectious cystitis. Ask your doctor about it, or see an infectious diseases specialist or urologist. Good luck! ...Read more

Low risk, no PrEP: The tests for STDs and HIV are very accurate, so you can be pretty sure your partner doesn't have any of the infections for which she was tested. And this sounds like a low risk situation for HIV, which remains less common ithan you might think among straight singles in the US. You don't need PrEP and most doctors wouldn't be willing to prescribe it in this situation. But get in the condom habit! ...Read more

Itchy scrotum for three months, no redness or rash. Unprotected oral sex around that time, but was recently tested for STDs and tested negative?

Jock itch?: An itchy scrotum is not a symptom of STD. It's most likely jock itch, which is a fungal skin condition. You can get an antifungal cream or spray without a prescription. If symptoms persist after using that for a week, then see a doctor. And please stop having risky sex. ...Read more
