If negative tests for bv, chlamydia, mycoplasma, ureaplasma, herpes, syphilis, gonorrea, trichomonas, hiv, what can be causes of cervicitis/urethritis?
Hiv infection is caused by a retrovirus....This retrovirus binds to CD4 cells (for the most part). You may detect the virus by several different methods. An elisa test (enzyme linked immunosorbent assay). You may also detect it by doing a test referred to as a western blot (a gel protein electrophoresis). Thirdly by pcr (polymerase chain reaction) which ...Read more
Can a pap smear detect the most common std's like chlamydia, genital herpes, HIV infection, gonorrhea, syphilis, trichomoniasis and hepatitis b?
Flu-like symptoms.: The majority of people infected by HIV develop a flu-like illness within a month or two after exposure. This illness, known as primary or acute HIV infection, may last for a few weeks. Symptoms include: fever, muscle soreness, rash, headache, sore throat, mouth or genital ulcers, swollen lymph glands, joint pain, night sweats, and diarrhea. Not everyone with HIV has all symptoms. ...Read more
Not likely: About 20% of the population catch the flu yearly. Most are healthy persons. Hiv positive makes you more succeptable to infection so yes if you are in poor condition and HIV pos you can catch viral, bacterial and fungal infections easier, however just because you catch the flu is no reason to suspect that you are now HIV positive. If you have risk factors for HIV then get tested. ...Read more

1 sex partner. After initial sexual encounter fishy rectal odor, lip tingling. Tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia= negative?Fishy odor due to herpes?
Bacterial vaginosis: The fishy odor is usually due to an infection that is a mixture of many different bacteria, the common name is bacterial vaginosis, also call it bv. The causes are many, bringing bacteria from the rectum to the vagina. It is not classified as a std, but it can be transferred from one partner to the other. Women can develop this with out being sexually active, hence not a true std. ...Read more
Possible: The elisa test can be affected by different infections, causing a false-positive result. After any positive elisa, a follow-up test is performed by a 'western blot' which takes longer to perform, but gives a more sensitive answer. If you or someone you know had a positive HIV by elisa, they absolutely need the follow-up testing (including a full std/sti work up). ...Read more
Can non chlamidial ngu cause pid in female partner. Gonorrhoea, chlamidia, mycoplasma genitalium, ureaplsama , trich all negative. No std found. ?
Probably not: Neither PID nor any other health problem has ever been documented in the sex partners of men with NGU not due to chlamydia or M. genitalium. Does your partner have PID, or are you just worried concerned about it? If the latter, my advice is to not worry. If PID is suspected, she of course should see her doctor or perhaps an NHS GUM clinic. Otherwise nothing need be done. ...Read more
Yes, but...: ...this is your 3rd or 4th question because of worry about HIV in what (from another question) was an obviously low risk exposure. You appear to be irrationally concerned, and having trouble believing or accepting repeated reassurance. There's no point in repeated questions; the answers won't change. Consider counseling; I suggest it from compassion, not criticism. Good luck and stay safe. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Had test after 18 days , negative for STDs and HIV , can anxiety stress make you think you have HIV symptoms?
Could this be HIV or an STD .The other day I have been worrying about having HIV soo i got a 3 month HIV test with a negative result but have symptoms?
Depends on test-: The HIV test is broken into two parts- the screen and the confirmatory western blot. When infected with HIV for the first time (primary HIV infection), flu -like symptoms can occur. During this period, the HIV screen may be negative since your body has had timer to make enough antibodies to be positive. If primary HIV infection is suspected, an HIV viral load can be done to diagnose this condition. ...Read more
