Started Antibiotic For An Ear Infection Now Ear Is Draining
2 yrs. Tubes six months ago suspect ear infection started ear drops today ear drainage and external ear is looking very bruised..Is this from infectn?
There are three different types of ear infections that affect different areas of the ear. Outer ear infection (Otitis externa) affects the ear canal and the outside part of the ear. Middle ear infection (Otitis media) affects the middle ear and leads to fluid accumulation behind the ear drum. Inner ear infection (Otitis interna) is a less common inflammation of the inner ear that causes vertigo, ...Read more
Ear popped after blowing my nose. Turns out, have an ear infection. Was given antibiotics but ear is still blocked and hearing is muffled. What to do?
Hi, I have an ear infection and my ear drum ruptured.I've been on amoxicillin and antibiotic ear drops for 3 days. How long till ear stops draining?
Hard to predict: The initial drainage was likely triggered by the pressure caused by buildup of mucous and pus behind the ear drum. This was released as drainage started. As the antibiotic begins to kill off the germ, the reason for drainage declines and eventually stops. Persistence of drainage after a week would be unusual and prompt a call to your doc. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Taking an antibiotic for a suspected sinus infection. Now my ear hurts. Does this mean the antibiotic is not working? Do I have an ear infection??
Son has ear tubes. Fluid draining from one ear. Has sinus drainage too. Take him to doc bc of ear drainage? Worried it's ear infection.
Clarify: Inner ear infections are rare and would involve the hearing and balance part of the ear with resultant deafness and severe vertigo. Rarely middle ear infection can spread to inner ear. Most likely you had a middle ear infection which when treated has residual fluid behind the ear drum. This fluid usually clears but if there is still hearing loss after 3-4 months then see ent. ...Read more
Middle ear infection with yellowish drainage, seen ent. Ear was not painful b4, now there is slight pain, , infection reach ear canal?
I have a sinus/ear infection in my left ear. Been takin augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) since 6/11. Is it possible that the ear infection can spread? Both ears are muffled.
Have an ear infection taking antibiotic drops but the ear has had drainage nonstop for four days how long will drainage last is this normal?
That depends: You don't say if you have a swimmer's ear (external otitis) or otitis media with a ruptured ear drum. An external otitis is treated with ear drops alone, and the drainage should have noticeably lessened by now. In otitis media with a ruptured ear drum the drops won't be enough unless the hole in the ear drum is large, or you have a tube in your ear. ...Read more
I'm on antibiotics for an ear infection in my right ear and sinus infection. Now my left ear hurts so bad when I swallow. is it another infection?
Not another infction: The antibiotics you are taking for the current infection will treat all the bacteria (both ears). The pain is from pressure in the eustachian tube, behind the ear drum. This is from swelling in your sinuses due to the current infection. Don't intentionally "pop" your ears - this can cause the eardrum to rupture. Take some phenylephrine (sudafed) to reduce the congestion and open the tubes. ...Read more
Ear has wax and fluid buildup. Doc said no infection but tragus is swollen and ear is hurting. Ear infection?
Unlikely: You note ear wax and fluid build up. You note a doctor said no infection. You have pain and think it is infection. It is unlikely that you have an infection but I don't know your age, risks, symptoms beside pain. In the summer it could be that you have build up and pain from allergies. The sneezing and inflammation can cause fluid build up. If persists then revisit your doctor for treatments ...Read more
Child has ear infection and now ear
Lobe looks infected is this concerning or normal with ear infections?
Yes: The ear infection may generate enough irritation and pressure that it creates a hole in the ear drum and leaks fluid out into the canal. This fluid often contains blood from the rupture in the ear drum. If the doc examined the ear, the ear piece can sometimes scratch the wall & ooze a bit of blood. ...Read more
I was diagnosed with an ear infection and prescribed ear drops and oral antibiotics. Finished my antibiotics. Is it safe to flush my ear myself?
Home ear flushing: Ear flushing is not usually required, except in cases of ear canal blockage by excessive hardened wax. Ear infections involving perforation of the ear drum can occassionally cause blockage from dried secretions, but management of this should only be performed by a qualified physician. Healing infections of the canal itself (otitis externa/swimmers ear) can be aggravated by flushing of the canal. ...Read more
