No: The steroid used is specific to stabilizing membranes & improving lung production of surfactant. It mimics what happens naturally when if mom develops high blood pressure & natural stress steroids speed lung maturity. It is only given at specific gestation's where research shows it will help. No long term negatives are seen for baby. ...Read more
Deoxygenated blood enters the lungs from the right side of the heart and travels to the lungs. When you inspire, oxygen flows into the lungs, transverses the capilliares and attaches to hemoglobin down a gradient. At the same time, co2 diffuses into the capilaries and is expelled with exhalation. Oxygen rich blood then flows to the left side of the heart and into the ...Read more

I have been getting multi transmorble steroid spinal epidural injections and my chest is tight I've been menstruating for 22 days whst can this be?
Sorry but say again?: I understand steroid spinal epidural injections but can't even hazard a guess as to what "transmorble" means. A steroid "flush" as a side effect in the face and chest could include tightness ; menstrual changes can occur so contact whoever injected you to better find out what may be going on. These symptoms usually settle down after a few days....22 days seems a bit much to me. Good luck. ...Read more

What is happening inside the lungs to the steroid inhaled regularly if it is not absorbed systemic.?
% of ICS's absorbed: Assuming that you are referring to inhaled corticosteroids for asthma or copd, what gets into the lungs is absorbed systemically and ultimately inactivated by the liver. The amount of steroid absorbed is usually small enough to have minimal risk of systematic adverse effects. As with all medications the benefit/risk profile needs to be considered. ...Read more

If baby was delivered at 35wks and no help was needed for breathing / lungs (steroid or incubator), could the due date be off?
Maybe, maybe not: I have known of premature infants born as early as 31 weeks that had no breathing issues. This is quite variable. There are several ways a physician can review the physical features of the infant after delivery & decide if the dates were off or the kid was early but lucky. Discuss this with the doc. ...Read more

Alternative drug?: May use a "steroid sparing drug" to decrease the need of steroid, in sarcoidosis of the nervous system Hydroxychloroquine (plaquenil) works best. Steroids make you gain mostly by increasing appetite and making you lazy and slugish, both can be helped, to a certain extent, by will power and vanity! ...Read more

Got oral thrush from steroid inhalers. Will it go into my lungs? I don't have HIV or immuneo viruses etc.
Asthma flared with allergies and getting the flu. Kept taking my albuterol daily for over a month. Noticing mucus stuck deep in lungs that I feel rumble but I can't seem to cough out. Would a steroid inhaler help clear this?
Needs a Mucolytic: The best way to mobilize 'stuck' phlegm is to try a mucolytic. WATER actually works pretty well- so I would hydrate, hydrate, hydrate as the first thing... Then, you could try over the counter Guaifenesin which can speed up the heart as a side effect, but should thin things out. What I personally use is HOT CHILI - the spice -if you like spicy foods. A steroid inhaler would help the asthma, yes. ...Read more

Vacicnes-no: Coughing can last 7-10 days from a virus. Steroids indicate there was probably wheezing as well. I am using dermovat cream clobetasol propionate for a small part of my chest skin where I am treating a keloid for 2 months, any steroid side effects?
Caution!: That is a very potent steroid cream, usually not prescribed for continuous use. It can cause your skin to thin, blood vessels to change, loss of normal elasticity, worsening of skin infections, and rarely can cause systemic symptoms. This is less likely with use on just a "small" part of skin, but small is a relative term! It usually does not shrink keloids. Better would be steroid injected directly. ...Read more
