Staphylococcus Throat Culture Treatment
Hi! My throat culture: staphylococcus auresus. I used levofloxacin for two weeks and nothing changed. I think its going worst. What should I do?
This is usually done when a throat infection is suspected. One will take a swab of the throat and then place the swab in culture medium. This will then be grown on a culture plate to determine if/what type of bacteria is causing the infection. Both viruses and bacteria ...Read more
A throat culture test I had showed staphylococcus aureus. Should I undergo antibiotic treatment or have my tonsils removed? Thank you!
I don't think so: Maybe half of humankind have some strain or other of this bug on board. I've always had some of them when I've bothered to culture my throat. People forget that many bacteria, even many of those capable of causing disease, are ordinary members of our microbial community. Staph's more of a problem for that pilonidal cyst -- the microbe likes to infect these. Get your surgery if required. ...Read more

What could be the symptoms of pharyngitis in which the throat culture is negative for streptococcus?
Took a throat culture today and said I either have strep throat or mono. How will I know which one I have?
One or Other or Both: You can't have either a strep throat or mononucleosis. You can have one or the other or both. A rapid strep test or a throat culture will tell whether or not you have a strep throat. A mono spot test or ebv antibody panel will show whether or not you have mono. If you have both do not take Ampicillin or Amoxicillin because either will cause a rash 90% of the time. ...Read more
Do We need pus in swab to detect steptococcus pyongenes in throat culture? Or it could be done with saliva from back?
Throat culture: To optimize sensitivity of any culture, the specimen must be from areas with active bacterial colonies. These are often manifest by redness and perhaps some exudate. Using direct exam, the person performing the culture should look at the palate, tonsils and posterior pharynx to select the best sites to sample. ...Read more
There is no reason to not drink milk before throat culture.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.

Probably viral: A throat culture is considered the "gold standard" when it comes to diagnosing strep throat. It is very accurate and specific to strep throat. Not one I would use: This class of drugs have a broad range of effects against many types of germs but I find no listing for strep throat. It is not used in kids and rarely used in most simple infections. Since strep is universally sensitive to the penicillins, and other inexpensive medications, it is one I would never use for strep throat. ...Read more

If we go thru throat culture. Do we really need pus on swab to detect streptococcus pyogenus? Or it could be done w/o pus on swab but saliva fro back?
Is it common to test positive for strep a on rapid strep and a month later test positive for strep c on throat culture?
Not unusual: Group C strep is frequently found on throat culture and is part of the normal flora that reside in the throat. As such, it's role as the causative agent in any given case of pharyngitis is often uncertain. There is no evidence Group C strep causes Acute Rheumatic Fever. *If it is cultured in an asymptomatic individual there is no necessity to treat it unless it's suspected as the cause. ...Read more

Med assit called and my throat culture was haemophilus parainfluenza 2. Worried because I don't know what this means. Amoxicillin for 7 days so far.
H. parainfluenzae: Haemophilus parainfluenzae, is a common bacteria found normally in the oropharynx. It probably is NOT the germ responsible for your pharyngitis, although I hope by now after 7 days of antibiotics you're better. Various viruses (mono) and bacteria (Strep A) would be on my list - were they checked for? A related bacteria known as Haemophilus influenzae IS a pathogen (a real germ) but u don't have it ...Read more
My 2 year old son had a throat culture that came back with a high reading of pseudomonas, is this a sign of cystic fibrosis?
Need to rule CF out: I would have the culture repeated. Unfortunately, studies have shown 49% of 2 year olds had positive throat cultures for pseudomonas aeruginosa. Sweat testing and genetic testing should be performed. Check to see if newborn blood screen tested for cystic fibrosis (cf). ...Read more
Can fungus on my to nail cause yeast to multiple in my throat. I had a throat culture done and it showed that I had over growth of yeast. Please help?
No: The fungii that cause nail fungal infection (trichophyton and epidemophytum) are different than yeast infection of the throat (candidia). However if you are prone to opportunistic infection (suppressed immune system, etc) you are more likely to get both but the spread of the nail to the throat is extremely unlikely. I hope you are seeing your pcp for these matters to monitor your overall health. ...Read more
Where could my 16 yr old daughter have gotten the pseudonomas bacteria? A strep throat culture came back positive for it.
After having a sore throat for over a week, is it too late to have a throat culture done for strep throat? My two grandsons have strep throat?
No: You can have a quick test done in the office with relatively accurate results almost immediately. A culture can also be done as backup. When you are treated within 10 days of first symptoms the known bad side effects of untreated strep can be stopped. If not you run these risks and can be a continuous carrier of the germ. ...Read more
For months when swallowing I have a lumpy feeling on right side only. Had endoscopy through nose in (nothing) & throat culture (negative). Thoughts?
Depends on location: If the symptom is high up in the throat then the tonsils can sometimes give this sensation. Lower down in the throat it could be from reflux or some other irritant. If the symptoms doesn't go away continue to follow up with your otolaryngologist - sometimes ct scans are done or swallowing studies. ...Read more
