Can chest x rays miss a lung infection?

Can chest x rays miss a lung infection?

Yes: Chest xray looks at the lung tissue superimposed on a the chest wall tissue including the ribs and all the muscles and thus can miss subtle findings. In addition, lung infection can be subtle, with presentation as a small focus of infection or a rather very faint infection area that can be very difficult to detect with xray alone. 2 doctors agreed:
Would a chest xray show lymphoma?

It depends...: It depends on the area covered by the x-ray and on how enlarged the lymph nodes are. A chest x-ray would probably show significant lymph node enlargement that may be suspicious for lymphoma in the mediastinal area (inside the chest cavity) and possibly in the supraclavicular (above the collarbone), lower cervical (neck), and axillary (armpit) regions. Inguinal (groin) lymph nodes would not show. ...Read more

Doesn't chest x Ray eliminate the existence of Lung Kaposi Sarcoma for an Hiv individual??

Not always.: Kaposi Sarcoma in the lung may not be visible on a simple chest x-ray. Can TB lympadentitis cause lung scarring without having pulmonary tb? Chest xray show only enlarged gland.
