Do I have a staph infection on the inside of my lips?, they keep sticking together, red, sore and have what looks like puss on them

Doubt staph. Herpes?: Staph is an unlikely cause of such symptoms, and "conditions" list sore throat as well as the mouth problem. Maybe herpes if you have been exposed, i.e. kissing someone with oral herpes or oral sex on partner with genital HSV. Other viruses and allergic reactions also are possible. For sure see a doctor ASAP -- the sooner the better both for accurate diagnosis and effective treatment if herpes. ...Read more

Vaginal staph infection, given erythromycin, are these the right treatment? Thanks

Vaginal staph infection, given erythromycin, are these the right treatment? Thanks

Change Doctor: I would advise a change in physicians. Anyone still treating patients with Erythromycin for any infection does not have the best interest of the patient at heart. Erythromycin, because it has so many intolerable side effects, is not a good treatment in general. And, Erythromycin does not treat the common forms of staph that are plaguing our societies. More effective antibiotics are available. ...Read more

I am pretty much 100 percent sure that I have Staph infection and would like second opinion and get on treatment asap?

I am pretty much 100 percent sure that I have Staph infection and would like second opinion and get on treatment asap?

Staph infection: I assume you talking about treatment of skin and soft tissue due to MRSA. It depends on how severe the infection is. With small skin abscess I& D is enough. If it is a big boil then it needs I&D and oral antibiotics. In case the infection is more extensive then IV antibiotics must be used. Choice of antibiotics depends on local resistance, labs and culture results and preference of the physician. ...Read more

I kissed my boyfriend on the lips today at lunch and he now thinks the "zit" he had under his nose is a staph infection. Ugh! Will I get it?!?!

Maybe: Be aware that staph germs are everywhere in the environment. This contact may have exposed you to staph, but you also touched a doorknob or banister or open surface that likely had it too. If you wash your hands on a regular basis then you cut down on some of your exposures. However, every time you touch your face with contaminated fingers you expose yourself as much as that kiss. ...Read more
