I have a staph infection in leg its healing but 3 inches above it the lymph node is still swollen which scares me is this normal? How long will last?

Lymph nodes: Rather than scaring you, an active lymph node doing it's job to fight off infection, should reassure and encourage you about your body's health. A reactive lymph node is working when it is swollen. It is doing it's job. It takes some time to return to a normal quiet state after the infection and all of the foreign material is taken care of. No reason to be scared for any reason here. ...Read more

Infection (Definition)

Infections are invasions of some other organism (fungus, bacteria, parasite) or viruses into places where they do not belong. For instance, we have normal gut bacteria that live within us without causing problems; however, when those penetrate the bowel wall and enter the bloodstream, ...Read more

What does staph infection look like on the leg?

What does staph infection look like on the leg?

Varies: It can look like anything from a folliculitis (inflamed hair follicles) to cellulitis (inflamed skin/soft tissue) to an abscess (painful lump with overlying inflamed skin, may be draining pus). This is common with all bacterial skin infections, not just staph, however. See a doctor for further evaluation. ...Read more

On antibiotics for a staph infection on my leg. Only have taken 2 doses so far, but abscess is growing and now hot to touch. Should i lance&drain it?

No: Don't try to drain it yourself. Go to the emergency room and get treatment . You probably need IV antibiotics and I&D drainage of the abscess. You may have a MRSA staph infection which is resistant to oral antibiotics. ...Read more

I think I might have a staph infection. I had a group of red bumps on my leg and all of them but one didn't go away, now it's swollen, red, painful. ?

Skin infections: You should have your leg evaluated by your doc, of which you may need an antibiotic. Till you get to see your doc, keep the area clean with soap & water, dry it & if the skin is open, use topical Neosporin, which could cut down the amount of infection. Take Aleve (naproxen) or Motrin to help with the pain and inflammation. Do not wait to see your doc, these are only temporizing measures. ...Read more

How do I tell if a spot on my leg is staph infection or just an irritated bite/spot/ hair follicle...etc....

RELAX: A small spot on the leg is common. Do you shave your legs? Wash in shower every day. If it becomes rapidly worse, see a DR. Most likely = folliculitis. Bacitracin and bandaid will make it worse. ...Read more

Had surgery to straighten bowed legs, got a staph infection in 1974 in r upper thigh. Again in same place in 2002 and 2011. Why does it return?

Had surgery to straighten bowed legs, got a staph infection in 1974 in r upper thigh. Again in same place in 2002 and 2011. Why does it return?

Complicated: Would need to know what type of infection and what it involved. You might try a combination of nasal Mupirocin (bactroban) and total body washings for about a month solely with a Chlorhexidine containing soap. Getting rid of the nasal and skin carriage state would be desirable (50% success) if this was skin and soft-tissue infection. ...Read more

I had staph infection a while ago and it was treated. However, my ankle (the original site from which it spread) still itches. Is that normal?

I had staph infection a while ago and it was treated. However, my ankle (the original site from which it spread) still itches. Is that normal?

Sort of: It is likely that there was a sensory nerve located in the area of the infection. The inflammation, and/or any treatment to the area for infection likely irritated this nerve. Now, you are having a neuritis to that nerve, which can cause various stimuli such as itching, burning, temperature change, etc. ...Read more

3 weeks ago i got a lil splinter in my thumb.I was unable to remove the splinter. Now a bump has formed under my thigh.Do I have a staph infection?

Possible: If this has been 3 weeks ago and it is not painful and draining pus then probably not. Your body is certainly reacting to it and creating a small scar around it. It is probably not a bad idea to see someone to perhaps have it removed. ...Read more

I have pain in my hip, knee, foot and my foot is swollen and numb. I found out that someone that went on a trip with me has staph infection. What now?

Not enough info: It would be unusual for a systemic Staph infection just from casual contact. I would consider other options, include reactive arthritis, crystalline arthritis (gout/pseudogout). It doesn't seem like the information given is going to help us pinpoint why you have this. Any recent new sexual partner or risk for gonorrhea? Where was trip? Lumbago with sciatica can lead to pain in those areas. ...Read more

Ok so I went to the doctor they said I have a staph infection. But they itch and there are little red numbs on my stomach my thigh and back and arms?

Ok so I went to the doctor they said I have a staph infection. But they itch and there are little red numbs on my stomach my thigh and back and arms?

Other suggestions: If you were diagnosed with a skin staph infection, an antibiotic is indicated. If you have itching while on the antibiotic, you may have a form of an allergic reaction. I would advise letting your physician know, and a virtual appt may be booked online to review the rash. www. healthtap.com/DosanjhMD Code: NCYHPZ ...Read more
