Will a staph skin infection harm my unborn baby?

Will a staph skin infection harm my unborn baby?

Probably not.: Staphylococcus skin infections are typically localized to the skin and pose no risk to unborn babies -- but the infection needs to be treated before it can cause any harm to you. See your obstetrician.

How long does it take for a staph infection to dissapear if it's just a skin infection?

How long does it take for a staph infection to dissapear if it's just a skin infection?

Infection: Depends on the extent of infection and what is being done. A small amount of folliculitis can resolve with cleaning and topical antibiotic. If you have an abscess it needs drainage and often a few days of antibiotic.

Is it true that bacitracin zinc ointment helps a staph skin infection?

Is it true that bacitracin zinc ointment helps a staph skin infection?

It's protective: Antibacterial ointments are great at preventing infection from getting into your skin. That's why they are great for open wounds and ulcers. If you already have a skin infection, ointments likely won't help much. It may require oral antibiotics or if there is a abscess, drainage.

Can maternal staph skin infections harm an unborn child?

Can maternal staph skin infections harm an unborn child?

Most Staph...: ...Infections are localized, and as such pose no threat to an unborn baby. However, the drugs used to treat bacterial infections can, under certain circumstances, be harmful; so make sure that any doctor or other caregiver who treats you is aware that you are pregnant. Never assume they know; tell them, and tell them again.

Could my ongoing staph infection be a form of strep?

No/Yes?!: The answer hinges on culturing the infected anatomy or fluid, in the right clinical setting. If the culture grows staph. Areus, it is a staph infection. If no cultures are done, then yes- certain infections such as cellulitis, can be due to strept but are presumptively diagnosed as staph. An experienced doctor in certain situations, can make this distinction.

Hi please could you tell me what the symptoms of a vaginal strep or staph infection would be, thanks?

Hi please could you tell me what the symptoms of a vaginal strep or staph infection would be, thanks?

Sometimes none: Both of these bacteria can normally exist in the vagina. Usually symptoms don't occur un less the bacteria overgrows. At that point symptoms may include a vaginal discharge and possibly odor.

What are symptoms of a strep and staph infection on the penis? Are they similar? Tiny red dots on penis glans when erect?

What are symptoms of a strep and staph infection on the penis? Are they similar? Tiny red dots on penis glans when erect?

Skin infection: Red, pain, small dots, large red swelling. It really doesn't matter. You have something wrong with your penis right now and it is not wise to wait this out or to nit-pick if one does not have all of the possible symptoms. Your doctor needs to see this and to get you treated.

Can OTC first aid ointments treat my skin staph infection?

Can OTC first aid ointments treat my skin staph infection?

Partially: If you carry staph (or mrsa) then it's important to immediately wash all cuts/scrapes/abrasions with soap and water. Applying a topical antibacterial ointment couldn't hurt (as long as you're not allergic). However, there is no proven method to eradicate staph from your body completely.

Can I get a staph infection or MRSA from my cat? Do all humans carry staph on skin?

MRSA: Many, but not all humans carry staph aureus in their nasopharynx and on their skin. All have the organism in their GI tract. You can become contaminated and colonized from the cat, but whether or not you become infected will depend upon multiple different factors.
